Fennel

Today was the day we picked our first batch of homegrown fennel! Been quite a grey day weatherwise, with sun breaking through intermittently, and lots of rain this evening. Took Ruaridh down to the beach, with the changing weather rolling in from the south over the ocean. Got quite a few photographs today and enjoyed the walk.
Tidied the greenhouse a little, but must do more tomorrow and the garden, as we return South on Tuesday.
Graham picked the fennel and we had it for dinner. First steam the fennel lightly, make a bechemal sauce and place a layer in the bottom of an ovenproof dish, put in the fennel, cover with more bechemal sauce. Then sprinkle lots of parmesan cheese mixed with breadcrumbs over this, place in the oven and bake until top is crisp. We had this with tagiatelle and a warm salad of courgettes, tomatoes and garlic superb.
Listened to the Sunday serial and knitted like mad finished the back of the wee cardy, and the blanket is growing!
