Supposed to be a day doing Nothing!----

Today was decreed a day to do nothing, as the past few days have been good but hectic one way and another! It started off well, read through some of the blippers on blipfoto.com received a parcel from my buddy in Canada, even managed to make porridge for breakfast which tasted great.
We then took Ruaridh to the woods he was very well behaved, then we all went to the dreaded supermarket, Graham and Ruaridh waited outside whilst I did the mad dash trying to ignore where I was. Collected the newspapers on the way home, had some lunch and a wee read then the momentum gathered.
Made celery soup for dinner, then a Sacher Torte cake for tomorrow (we are invited to Layla and Joe's). Changed our bed did a couple of washes, well the machine did! trying to finish a wee cardigan for Bella, Graham and moi took Ruaridh his evening walk, saw a fox in someone's garden and so on and so on!
Sat and watched Jam and Jerusalem which is quite poignant. Had celery soup, (blipfoto.com/BB) half the left over pie from Christmas day for dinner with mashed potatoes and carrots lovely! Goodnight.

Pickled

Up quite early this morning as we were going through to visit Graham's mum in her new home in Glasgow. Layla and Joe were taking baby Bella to see her paternal Great Granny, we were taking my mother and the wee dog to see my mother-in-law.
Took Ruaridh to the woods before we set off, had quite an uneventful journey through to Glasgow. Weather grey and quite cold.
Had quite a good visit with Graham's mum, she was really pleased to see us especially the new baby, we had tea, coffee and biscuits, and met and chatted to the other ladies. As we were leaving Auntie Jessie arrived, lovely to see her and they all had a good Christmas. We left Layla, Joe and Bella to go to IKEA to buy a new carpet, us to return home. Easy ride home.
Very hungry, oatcakes, crackers, pickled walnuts, pickled onions for a snack delicious.
Had pizza and coleslaw for dinner, lovely! Taking my mum back to Lancashire tomorrow so maybe no Blog for a couple of days. Have fun Goodnight!

Merry Christmas

Had a great day with the family yesterday, especially our new baby grandaughter Bella. Dinner was superb, as was the company a truly good day.

Peace

Today is Christmas Eve, may Love and Peace be with you today and throughout 2007.
Graham went to pick up our new flat screen T.V. had breakfast then took the wee dog to the woods. Came back then Graham and moi went up town to do a last minute Christmas shop. Wasn't like the previous years as many of the shops were desperate to get the sales stuff on the shelves ready for Boxing day, Christmas appeared to be over? Anyway enjoyed the shop, had a cup of tea and scone, and managed to get the presents organised.
On the bus back home met a lovely family who I had met in the hairdressers on Friday, the wee boy stated he didn't want much to eat as he was too excited waiting for Santa. Also saw a Polish couple with their Christmas Tree, goodies in a bag celebrating in their own country's way. Wonderful. Have a Happy Christmas and Love and Peace be yours. Goodnight.
Just watched an old chum of mine Jack Nichols Bishop of Sheffield lead the Christmas Service from a church in Cheshire!

The City

Had another early start yesterday. Walked down to Stockbridge to get the fish for dinner tonight, bought Halibut and scallops so looks like we could have a lovely meal. Came home had breakfast with Graham and mum, then took the wee fellow to the park and woods, he had a good play with Ruby the Schnauzer.
Up to the city with mum yesterday afternoon, we did really well and managed to get almost all the things we had set out for. Had a hot chocolate and a coffee and two muffins in a cafe called The Grog tasted fine and gave us a few minutes to rest our feet!
No problems with the buses, got home then Graham and moi went to Waitrose to do a food shop, more bevvy than food ah well! Had pasta and tomato sauce with salad and bread for dinner delicious. Made pizza's just going to try and finish a wee cardigan for Bella. We are hoping to pop over and see the family today. Goodnight.

Hairdresser

Had to cancel the colouring part of my hair do today, things started to go a wee tad pear shaped a couple of days ago when Graham had a meeting arranged for this morning he could not miss! then it was the studio day out! Fine got up and got mother's and my breakfast organised, then whilst I took Ruaridh to the park and woods mum got herself ready to go to visit Layla and Bella.
Left the house at 1035 hours, traffic not too bad arrived at Layla's, ten minutes to get to the hairdresser's, left Ruaridh with them, drove quickly --not too fast though, to get to the "salon" on time. Just made it, rushed up the stairs, saw Iain still cutting someone else's hair hmmm, had to wait 20 minutes after my scheduled time, not a happy bunny. Told him so, people arriving late has a knock on effect, is it always moi who gets knocked back the most? ha well!
Hair great, back to Layla's for tea and biscuits, had a good drive back home. Mum had nursed the wee one all morning and is delighted with her. Made bread, had an old favorite for dinner that I have not made in years, sweet and sour kidney beans and rice with flat breads, mum enjoyed this.
Out to the park with Ruaridh, met Bonnie and Brogan out with their mistress, Ruaridh loved playing with Bonnie, Brogan is still unwell. Goodnight.

Journey Care

Today Bella's maternal Great Granny travelled to Edinburgh from St Annes on Sea, Lancashire. She is 86 years old and still manages to travel by herself. Her good friend Irene took her to the station at Preston and stayed with her until the train came. An essential part to my mothers travelling is the dedication of the Journey Care staff who work for Virgin Trains. They make sure my mum gets on the right train and meet her her at Edinburgh. A big thank you to this group of people.
Prior to meeting mum we took Ruaridh for his usual walk, he met the girls from the local public school who thought he was cute but he ignored them!
After meeting mum we took her straight away to meet Bella who was fast asleep, she thought the baby was gorgeous. She had brought presents for the baby from various people. We had tea and coffee, carrot cake courtesy of Auntie Chris, and oat flips or flaps from George's, spent a lovely time with the family.
Left and came home to have dinner, lasagne, salad and a glass of red wine! Just going to do a little knitting then bed. Goodnight

Grassmarket

Early start today as we were going to visit Graham's mother in Glasgow. Took Ruaridh to the park and woods and met the lovely lady with the three daschunds had a quick chat and hurried on. Had a great journey through to Glasgow arriving around 1315 hours. Graham's mum appeared to be a little more settled we spent about an hour with her as they were holding a party in the home.
Went to Lidls and did a shop. The drive home was equally good and we went straight to the Grassmarket to Helios Fountain to buy Christmas gifts, managed to find what we wanted. As it was very cold and we had not had lunch we treated ourselves to a crepe with lemon and sugar, Ruaridh loved this.
Back home Cullen Skink for dinner delicious. Before going to Glasgow I bought undyed smoked haddock from a fish van that comes to our area every Wednesday, great service. Bye.

Washing line.

Graham had to go into work today, and I was going to visit Layla and Bella, had a quick shower and breakfast then left. Drove to the office, then Ruaridh and moi walked via the park to Layla's new house.
We had a word with Sybil as she was outside when we arrived, she is Layla and Joe's neighbour, then into the house, more cards and pressies arriving for the wee lassie! In fact Sybil knocked on the door and gave Bella a lovely gift, a cardigan she had knitted herself. Kind.
Had a chat, helped Layla sort the washing then went outside and hung the washing on the line. I love this washing line you reach it from the balcony, it is fun and the washing hangs high! Ruaridh enjoyed the garden and tried to chase a cat!
Bella is really well behaved, she is just a sweetie, Ruaridh is very good with her but gets a tad excited/anxious when I say, "Hello Bella," he comes close and I have to say, " Hello Ruaridh," then he is happy! Am I daft!!
Graham came to pick us up I had lunch with Layla, so he had a sandwich and a cup of tea. Aunty Onya arrived and brought a lovely Steiff lamb for the baby, it is gorgeous! It was good to meet up with her haven't seen her in an age.
Bought our Christmas tree on the way home a tiny one!
Had toad in the hole, mashed tatties and peas for dinner delicious. Almost finished my Christmas cards now. So cup of tea and bed Goodnight

Back home then over to Layla's to see her and the baby, Graham had to go into the office, and Layla had to take the baby for a check to the doctor's. I stayed and Ruaridh and moi made vegetable soup. Had a lovely afternoon with Layla and the baby when she came back. Nursed the wee one for a while and she went to sleep. Graham came about 1815 hours with Joe, we left to come home.
Baked potatoes for dinner, with cheese, tuna and mayo and baked beans. Attempting to get the Christmas cards written, do my blip and now my Blog. Bye

Bella Blanket

When my daughter knew she was pregnant she asked me to knit a baby blanket, I said yes. Today I had the satisfaction of finishing the blanket and knowing it will be cosy for Bella in the winter months. I won't say how many times I had to pull it back, and I know there are mistakes in it but I have loved knitting it, and hope they like it. Her other Granny Karen has also knitted her a lovely blanket, so for sure she will be warm!
Down to Waitrose this morning, fry up for breakfast. Took Ruaridh to the woods and he had a good run.
Busy in the house today, I cleaned the bedrooms, Graham did all the sanding of the work surfaces in the kitchen, looks great!
Graham made a lovely dinner, courgettes cream and parmesan cheese with linguine. Blanket finished. Goodnight!

The Leith School of Art

Today along with the Family Tree, Graham and moi went to The Leith School of Art to see our friend Chris's end of term 'show.' There was some interesting work from various courses and it was good to be able to see it. Chris was delighted to see wee Bella and be a great auntie! and the baby did somewhat steal the show!
Came home took Ruaridh for his walk he had stayed at Joe and Layla's whilst we were out, very well behaved. Had to go to Homebase, then home for lunch. Heiner had telephoned from Germany this morning and again this pm. He was very happy to hear about Bella, but still has huge problems with his work!
Minestrone Soup for dinner, almost finished the blanket! Watching a movie about a prison in Sao Paulo, Brazil! Goodnight.

Fruitmarket

Lazy morning, to the park and woods with the wee dog. Our old chum Betty was in town so she telephoned around 1340 hours and we went up town to meet her.
Misplaced my free bus pass damn, had to fork out £1 each way on the bus ah well. Met Betty outside Waverley, was good to see her and she was very happy re Bella. We went into the Fruitmarket gallery/cafe, spent time chatting and catching up.
Took some photographs in the venue, amongst other things it is a great art/political bookshop, I sometimes just go into browse, today we had coffee and cake that was rather good.
Left Betty to catch her train back to Glasgow, had a stroll round the fun fair and the markets both Scottish and European flogging their wares, this Festive Time
Back home made bread, Graham made a lovely dinner-couscous with onions and mushrooms, sweet and sour vegetables, superb.
Just about to watch Jam and Jerusalem. Bye

Took Ruaridh to meet Bella

Had a relaxing morning? doing some business things around the house, making telephone calls and sending money to Scottish Hydro Electric! things like that, that have to be done, take time, and you hate doing them!
Took the wee dog to the park and woods, met up with Annie the cocker spaniel who always barks at Ruaridh and tries to protect her owner. Today quick as a flash when the barking started, the owner whipped out a biscuit tin filled with what sounded like small stones, she shook this at Annie, it made quite a din and yes stopped the dog barking Well Done!
Had lunch then got ready to go to and visit Bella. This was Graham's first visit to see her at the house due to his cold, and we were to take Ruaridh. We had a lovely visit Bella appears to be coming on in leaps, Layla is also looking great. Ruaridh really behaved well he was obviously wondering who the small figure was, but did as he was told, and was very laid back. He loves Joe and followed him around!
Came home, more telephone calls to make. Graham made a lovely veggie stew, mashed tatties and cabbage for dinner. Just trying to finish the blanket for Bella. Goodnight.

Stormy Weather

Awoke to the rain tippling down. Showered and breakfast then up to the dentist, have known John for an age and as the hygienist did my teeth he popped in to give them the once over. He was delighted about Bella and also about blip and says he is going to be a contributor on 01/01/07. Watch this space!
Arrived home just as the rain stopped, Graham and moi took the wee fellow to the woods, he chased the squirrels! Came home had lunch then to Glasgow
Travelling on the M8 Motorway was scary, rain lashing down and the lorries travelling like the clappers! could hardly see the road in places. However arrived safely, Graham's mum was pleased to see us. However she is still wanting to go home hopefully as time goes on she will settle. The home is great, and the staff very friendly and helpful.
On leaving had to go to Graham's mum's flat as the traffic and weather was atrocious. Stayed there until about 1845 hours, then as the traffic lessened we set off for home via Lidls, which was empty! due to the bad weather.
Arrived home about 2100 hours. Had dinner, then took Ruaridh to the park, he met Bonnie the Bernese Terrier and had a good run round with her she is a lovely dog, the older one is not well. Having a glass of wine. Goodnight!

Snow

Up fairly early as I had to go and collect the parcel from the post depot that they had been unable to leave on Wednesday last. Inside the parcel was a traditional Shetland Shawl for Bella to keep her cosy. Had a shower then breakfast, said cheerio to Graham and Ruaridh grabbed my coat and went to the car. Drove down to Comely Bank parked, jumped out of the car minus coat, lo and behold walked 50 yards and the heavens opened. Queue was long however it moved quickly I got soaked, going back to the car, hmmm.
Got my 'Puffa' on went to the bank, drove to Napiers Herbalist for something for Layla, on my way down to the shop could not believe it Snow was starting to fall! Saw Fiona my old acupuncture lady, she was delighted to hear about Bella her wee one is five this month!
Over to see Layla, Joe and Bella, she was getting changed then had her feed, stayed and had a chat offered advice-gently, Bella appears to be coming on, she has the hospital tomorrow. As the midwife was coming I left, and got home to a big welcome from Ruaridh! Made bread, changed the bed played with the wee dog. Made a shepherdess pie for dinner and one for the family. Very tired so just going to do a little knitting then bed! Goodnight.

Christmas Cake Day

Had a more leisurely approach to the day, as Bella is hopefully coming home today. Graham's cold started to worsen so he stayed in bed. Took Ruaridh to the woods met some Jack Russell dogs that were a pain in the butt, one attempted to bite the wee fellow, so we said cherrio to that lot! When we got home Joe had telephoned to say Layla and the wee one could go home, he sounded so excited just hope she manages to keep taking the breast milk and puts on some weight, I know I am biased but she is a cutie!
Had some lunch then had to go to the dreaded supermarket as I wanted to make and bake the Christmas Cake today, and I required greaseproof paper, bought some other goodies as well. Came home and set about the cake, allowed myself two wishes whilst stirring, I know this should be with the pudding but I bought that already. Cake will be ready at 1930/2000
hours.
Layla telephoned at about 1630 hours to say they had just got home. Poor things she asked were we going over, so I said I would love to, Graham can't because of his cold. Drove over and spent a good hour with them, the wee one fed quite well, and finished off with expressed milk.
Arrived home to rescue the cake looks delicious. My buddy Sue telephoned from British Columbia to offer congrats to all, she is in good form and appeared to be delighted that the baby was here.
Made dinner-pasta and cheese sauce, salad and red wine. Then my cousin Mike telephoned to offer his congrats! Quite a busy day, Now for a cup of tea and then bed! goodnight.

Under the sunlamp

Up early this a.m. as I had to go up to town, and down to Stockbridge. A lovely cold sunny day made one feel good. Bought an Aladdin Adventurer Flask, which appears big enough to keep the troops happy! Straight down to Stockbridge to pick up my Puffa jacket, which had to have a new zip in courtesey of Howies, as the original zip was kaput. Went over to Oxfam to buy some Christmas cards, the selection was quite good this year. Popped in to see Corrina, she was delighted with Bella and visited the hospital last night.
Went to Waitrose for some goodies then quickly up the road to make the red pepper soup for Layla. Graham and moi took the wee dog to the woods, he met one or two dogs and had a play. Back home and drove over to the hospital.
Bella is still under the sunlamp as her bilirubin is still a little raised. She lays there as though she is sur la plage at Cannes, and is enjoying this. She has started to take milk from the breast, it was lovely to see our daughter feeding her wee one, Joe looking on, tenderly. They are hoping to get home tomorrow so fingers crossed.
Going to try and finish my blanket for the baby, the Shetland Shawl arrived here on Wednesday, we must have been out and I didn't find the card re the delivery until today.
Going to have a light evening meal so bye.

Celery Soup

As you will have read in my two previous Blogs Layla and Joe's wee lassie Bella was born in hospital on 06/12/06. They had planned for various reasons to have a home birth, but a few weeks ago it was flagged up that the wee one was a small baby for her dates, the obstetrician stated that it would be better if the baby was born in hospital. Layla was dreading this mainly for the food! can't say I blame her. When we went to visit yesterday she asked for some celery soup, so this morning I was over to Sainsbury's to get the celery and try and buy a new flask. No flasks in the N/W of Edinburgh, in the supermarket when I asked if they stocked vacuum flasks the chap looked at me as though I had dropped in from Mars. Ah well!
Visited Layla, Joe and Bella at the hospital, and two of their chums Sue-mum to Lily and Rohan, and Helen mum to Matthew came to visit. They were delighted with the wee lassie and both nursed her. Joe and Layla are looking forward to going home with the bairn when they get the ok.
Ruaridh has been really great over the past week, his routine is different at the moment but he is fitting in!
Still got to finish my baby blanket onto the edging now whew! Goodnight

Bella's Day

Today our wee grandaughter Bella Tree came into the world, what a delightful gift for us all especially the proud mum and dad Layla and Joe, may Love and Peace be hers today and always.
Awoke early this am as I had to go and buy sheets for the wee one to sleep on, managed to get some lovely warm ones.Took
Ruaridh for his daily walk to the park and in the woods, then spent quite an angst ridden day! Last we heard at 0116 hours this morning was that Layla was having contractions starting at 0100 hours then nothing more. Eventually I telephoned the labour ward about 1100 hours to be informed she was in labour. Joe telephoned at 1200 hours to say things were ok and progressing well. We waited all afternoon Graham counting the hours, moi cleaning the bathroom and knitting the blanket.
Telephoned my mum, then Chris and Liz two women who Layla calls auntie telephoned to ask if there was any news. At 1800 hours the telephone rang and yes it was Joe saying "Hello Grandmother," Bella was here! Layla and baby were fine even though the bairn is small. Joy of joys quite an emotional time for Graham and me. Going to pick up the pram tomorrow, then a visit to see the Tree family at the hospital in the afternoon, can't wait.
Graham and moi had a bottle of wine tonight to celebrate. Goodnight.

Changes!

Up early again this morning, going through to Glasgow to take Graham's mother to her new home where she will be looked after, and also be safe and comfortable. Weather not to good heavy rain showers, mixed with sunshine. Took Ruaridh to the park and woods prior to leaving, today he almost caught a grey squirrel.
Bought sandwiches at Cafe Citron, then we were off. Took some items from her old home so that the room would be somewhat familiar when she arrived. Went to the hospital to pick Betty up, she was quite excited, took her down to the home she appeared to be quite happy and relaxed. Auntie Jessie came to visit then we left.
Layla had a visit to the hospital today to check up on the baby and herself, EDD 14/012/06 the consultant decide to take her in tonight, so at this moment waiting to hear from Joe. We managed to get back in time to see the two of them before they left, excited and nervous was the order of the evening.
Made bread, Graham made a lovely butternut squash rissotto and salad for dinner.
Trying to get the blanket finished, whilst waiting for the bread to bake. Goodnight.

Light in the kitchen

Today we were meant to go to Glasgow to take Graham's mother to her new home, on Friday due to industrial action we were told this couldn't take place until this coming Friday, so we were just going to visit her in hospital. However just before we left we were telephoned to say the action was off and she could take up residence tomorrow.
Up had a shower and breakfast took Ruaridh to the park and woods, he had a great time playing with a Labrador called Dooley, and a Tibetan terrier called Buster. Also heard that someone called the RSPCA regarding the injured fox, and she was put out of her misery.
Back to the house and put up the new light in the kitchen, somewhat of a hassle to say the least but eventually success, looks great. Did some ironing before going to Karen's for dinner with Joe and Layla.
Had a lovely meal, left about 2200 hours took Ruaridh to the park, read through my blips, going to have a cup of tea then to bed. Goodnight.
Listened to the new Yusef Islam album on Graham's ipod again great.

Injured Fox

Blogging this late Sunday evening, early hours Monday morning. Awoke quite late yesterday Sunday, had breakfast, washed then had to do the dreaded supermarket trip. Made a decision from today am going to shop at Waitrose, it is a pleasure, wide aisles, people but not to many and the produce is well packaged. Also it is not too expensive as I had been led to believe, loved it but staying cool and will still visit lidl!
Came back and Graham and Ruaridh were ready to go a walk, we set off to the park and has we got there we heard a horrible squealing from the woods. It was very loud but we could see nothing, walked into the woods keeping our eyes and ears open.
When we got to the fence that seperates the woods from a private school, Ruaridh rushed through a hole in the fence towards an animal, when I saw the tail I knew it was a fox but obviously injured as it was not moving. The wee dog came back when called, Graham tried to see what was wrong, the fox appeared to have been hit on its side, we just had to leave it hopefully it dies soon or recovers.
Layla and Joe came for dinner last night, made aduki bean pie, roasted potatoes, peas and corn and Layla's beetroot, followed by Graham's Apple Charlotte, ice cream and coffee butterscotch sauce. Swilled down with Shiraz Carbernet, or Dandelion/Burdock cordial delicious.
Had a telephone call from our friend Liz who hails from Aberdeen. She is visiting her daughter Rosie in Glasgow and is coming to Edinburgh on Tuesday will be good to see her. Layla is also hoping to see her if all goes OK at the hospital.
Listened to Yusef Islam's new album today fantastic. Goodnight.

Christmas Bazaar

Up early for me on a Saturday morning, today was the Christmas Bazaar for Garvald Centre, where Layla worked until she started on her maternity leave. The centre caters for people with learning difficulties and teaches different skills and crafts to the members, Layla was in charge of the weaving department. Had a shower and a quick breakfast then away. Ruaridh came with us but stayed in the car whilst we were inside.
Met up with Karen, Layla and Joe had a good look round and bought our goodies. Also met up with Layla's friends, and people I knew from The Rudolf Steiner School. Listened to the choir sing some seasonal works, excellent! then tootled off upstairs to heve a coffee and a mince pie, delicious. Susie one of the members joined us, she is in one of the weaving groups and is a real character, a joy to meet, very independent.
Left around 1230 hours to go home, to the woods with the wee dog, met up with Cooper and his mistress Rosie, Ruaridh and he played for a while. Good walk, sheltered under some rocks during a heavy shower of rain. Lazy dazy afternoon, had a good email from Jane my chum in Andorra. Made chili red pepper soup for dinner followed by tuna sandwiches, lovely.
Going to take Ruaridh for his walk as I want to watch a film on BBC4 called "Uzak" set in Istanbul. Bye!

Almost Forgot.

Almost forgot to write my Blog, too busy looking through blipfoto.com. Pretty uneventful day, up at 0700 hours, last day at work until end of February. Good day at work no real problems, arranged to go out for dinner with Jo and Sandra Thursday next, looking forward to that.
Graham and Ruaridh came to meet me, then I took the wee dog home as Graham was going up town to meet two old friends.
Uneventful evening, helped my mum sort her computer, spoke to Layla on the telephone, she saw the consultant today and goes again on Tuesday. Less than two weeks now to the EDD. Wow! Had bought pizza and chips for dinner OK. Done some knitting-wrong pulled back again. Took Ruaridh out for a walk, pleasant evening. Going to do more knitting and have a cup of tea. Goodnight.

Ikea day!

Blogging late-actually it is now 01/12/06, but have just finished watching the movie "The Magdalene Sisters," what a disgrace that the state allowed the church to run these workhouses, for women who were supposed to have gone 'astray.'
Got up fairly early yesterday morning, had a shower, breakfast then took Ruaridh for a run in the woods. Met two cocker spaniels Annie, then met up with his old mate Murphy and his owner Ken, they walked round with us in the woods, but then we had to dash as we were going to pick up Layla and go to Ikea.
Layla was waiting for us and soon we were off, went into the cafe to have a cake and drink, then went to purchase our goodies. Going to get a veggie hot-dog on the way out, yep you guessed it they did not have any.
Drove Layla home, the wind was so strong washing had blown off the washing line at her new house, last count a towel was missing. Had a cup of tea then headed for home.
Veggie stew, mashed potatoes and peas for dinner lovely, managed to do some knitting whilst sat watching the movie, now to bed as I work tomorrow, last day till February! Goodnight.
