Joe's Day

Joe was born on 29/02 which means he gets a birthday on that date once every four years, so as Layla pointed out on her blip 27/02/07 blipfoto.com/Lonely little petunia he is now 8.75 years old. So today he celebrated his day and I would like to wish him a big Many Happy Returns, and a super year! looking forward to the dinner tomorrow! Bella had her second lot of 'jabs' today poor wee sausage, but Layla said she was very good!
Not much to say today, it was back to work which was very uneventful, met up with one of the Doctor's I worked with ages ago, he lives and works in London now. His son is at University, doesn't seem like five minutes since he was playing out on his bike!
Graham and Ruaridh went down to the shore today met lots of dogs, then had a long walk, wee dog is very tired, in his basket sleeping!
Did the ironing, minestrone soup, veggie hotdogs in rolls for dinner. Did some knitting, having a cup of tea then to bed. Goodnight.

Moi and Ruaridh visit Layla & Bella

Today Graham was working so Layla and moi had planned to do lots of things unfortunately the weather put paid to that! I awoke to the sound of rain bouncing off the pavement and knew our visit to the new allotment was off, also we would not be meeting up in Stockbridge for a coffee! Had breakfast, then grabbed a lift over to the studio with Graham, walked over to Layla's via the park, when we arrived my mum was on the telephone!
Ruaridh got a bit excited with the baby, but settled down and was quite a good wee dog. Bella is lovely she was smiling and making small noises, when not otherwise engaged i.e. feeding, sleeping, playing with her mobile etc!
Her mum had to go a message, so we all piled into The Figaro, Layla's car and set off. She has a flattish tyre could not find a garage where we were able to put air in bah! The traffic was horrendous, but the baby slept, and Ruaridh was good, mission was accomplished! Layla and Bella dropped us off at home.
I made bread, Graham arrived home, we had dinner pasta, tomato sauce and salad.
Did some knitting now away to bed work tomorrow. Goodnight.

Monday-Work

Back to work today, would have loved to have had the time to hang my washing out before going, but must have doodled about to much as I only had time to eat my cereal and drink my coffee (a must) before I had to leave the house. Lovely day sunny and warm, my sheets would have smelt lovely, now they dry inside!
Ruaridh was to the woods with Graham, then over to the studio, blipfoto.com/A Dogs Dinner the rockateers love him and he soaks up the attention! Then Graham and the wee dog came to meet me at the hospital, on the way home called into Homebase to try and find a magi-light torch no success! quick visit to Sainsbury's then home.
Doing some knitting, butternut squash risotto with salad for dinner. Goodnight.

Organic tatty day!

Today in a heavy downpour we made our way to Insch House where the sale of organic seed tatties was taking place. Had a great evening and morning with Bella and Layla, Ruaridh was much happier today. Bella was a bundle of laughs this morning, and making noises all of the time. We had breakfast then started to get ready, Graham took the wee dog for a walk in the woods, he has been quiet today, think the excitment of Layla and Bella being here tires him!! I managed to dress Bella, a bit fingers and thumbs but we managed, long time since I dressed a wee person! Then we set off.
Thought the sale would have been outside but it was in the house, lots of tatties for sale Layla, Graham and moi bought some Golden Wonder, Nicola and Pink Fir Apple, no doubt the Blog will record the tatties progress.
Did not do much this afternoon caught up with blip, going to have dinner-Minestrone soup and biscuits followed by sandwiches later.
TV tonight a programme re Dr David Kelly, and a further episode of Travels with a Tangerine, so watching these. Bye!

Bella's overnight stay no 2

Layla and Bella are staying over with us tonight as Bella's daddy is mein host for a poker evening, don't know how often the guys have them but Joe hit the jackpot tonight. Bella is having her feed then to bed, she has been so good as I have said many times she is a wee adorable sausage! Hoping Joe might make it over for breakfast tomorrow morning!
Quite a leisurely morning, an old friend of my mother's Mrs Lawrence who had been ill for a few years, died last week they had been friends for 73 years, and we also got to know her, a charming woman, ordered flowers for the funeral.
Took Ruaridh to the woods he had a good run around. Back home--made bread, did some cleaning, ironing and made the dinner. Tonight we are having fennel in cheese sauce, linguine and salad followed by apple crumble and icecream.
Just about to hit the dessert. Goodnight.

Work Day

After work walked down to Waitrose, as I needed to do a shop! it was pleasant to walk down, good to be out in the fresh air after being inside for most of the day! Managed to get most of the messages before I saw Graham coming towards me! We finished the shopping together, paid then went up to the carpark on floor two, Ruaridh was sat waiting patiently in the car. he appeared to be pleased to see us, and jumped around.
Ruaridh and Graham had been to the beach at Gullane today with Layla and Bella, they had a good walk, took lots of photographs and enjoyed themselves! and it was a lovely warm sunny day.
Work was ok, I like it 'cause I enjoy meeting up with all the people I have worked with over the years, good crowd.
Baked tatties for dinner with mackerel and gherkins, baked beans and cheese, with red wine and chocolate!!
Doing some knitting. Bye.

Started off really well today. Had to be up at 0700 hours as yes it was back to work day! Guess what no hot water could have screamed, didn't! just tried to get the damn thing working, eventually after much hassle the hot water decided to work. Showered OK no hair washed, left for work in the rain!
Work was fine apart from the fact it was a mucho longer working day, good to meet up with colleagues again, and we had a great laugh! lunch was delicious catered for once again by Pinkerton's! Taxis also a bit of a problem.
Graham and Ruaridh came to meet me, was lovely to see the wee dog, he always gets quite excited when we meet up!
Had pasta, pesto and salad for dinner.

Hours on the road

Today we headed south to "Old Reekie" as I start work tomorrow for a couple of weeks! We left the Glen at 1115 hours and arrived for dinner at the family's at 1800 hours, yes we came via Glasgow to visit Graham's mum and at times the traffic was pretty heavy! Graham's mum was happier and she loved the photo's we had printed out of Bella.
Ruaridh does not like the travelling can't say I blame him, however he did enjoy his walk in the woods on leaving the Glen, and also his favorite walk before we go into Glen Coe! also enjoys sharing our lunch!
Went to see Layla, Joe and Bella, Ruaridh was really much better round the wee one so hope it continues. The baby is gorgeous and is now up to 8lbs 15oz she laughs and makes noises all the time! She had her dancing shoes on, a pressie from aunty Louise blipfoto.com/Lonely little petunia. We had a super dinner-carribean bean stew, rice and tortilla, and it was good to see them all.
Arrived home no heating the damn boiler again! got it organised getting warmer as I write! now going to bed Goodnight.

Pancake Day

Today is Shrove Tuesday but better known to me as Pancake Day, so today yes I made pancakes, not the traditional English ones but Scotch Pancakes (Griddle or Drop Scones).blipfoto.com/BB Lucky for us we picked up our delicious free range eggs, supplied to the village shop from Lizzies croft, and were able to use them in the recipe! Have only had one pancake each at the time of writing they were delicious, Ruaridh loves a pancake!
Went down to the beach, had a great walk even though it was very cold in the wind. Ruaridh loved the wind and chased leaves all over the beach.
Back home and started to do some cleaning, then Jean, Luc and Mara arrived, Ruaridh thought this was great and they played in the garden for ages.
After they left I carried on cleaning-----!
Dinner tonight vegetable stew, mashed tatties and broad beans. Lovely just going to cook more pancakes for supper. Goodnight.

Food for Thought

We went down to the beach today as every one appeared to be somwhat tired after yesterday's big walk. We walked both the beaches, and it was great to get the wind from the ocean! On returning we noticed a seagull floating on the ocean, then suddenly it would lift into the air a few feet and dive into the sea for fish, out with the binoculars! It repeated this manouvre a few times and then lo and behold came up with a crab, flew to the beach and started to pick. More birds started to gather round, so quick as a flash it picked up the crab struggling by this point, flew over some rocks and dropped it. This was repeated numerous times, supposedly this weakens the shell and makes for easier pickings! Ruaridh was not at all interested or impressed.
Popped into visit Noonie our neighbour, a granny again, this time to Findley a boy born to her son Robert and his wife Karen, Congrats! to all.
John H poped in and had some lunch, I made bread then cleaned the inside of the car!
Leek and pea risotto with salad for dinner! bread roll and tea for supper. Goodnight.

The Long Walk!

Today we awoke to a lovely ground frost and the sun shining, the frost had settled on the grass and on the deck and was glistening in the sunlight. After breakfast we decided to go on a long walk as it was such a lovely day, so we set off into the hills. Ruaridh just loved it and for a lot of the trek just disappeared into the surrounding woods, it was a lot of uphill but worth it for the views and the feeling of wellbeing it gave to one. Got many photos and keep trying to get my macro shots more accurate, today think I did a little better? We lost the dog on the way home-well he decided to have a longer adventure in the woods and after a lot of shouting and whistling, he came a running!
Late home so didn't do very much, soup, omelette, roast potatoes and peas for dinner.
Watched great programmes on tv, now watching Travels with a Tangerine excellent. Goodnight.

The Year of the Pig!

Today we took Ruaridh down to the beach for the daily constitutional, first going down to the village shop to pick up the Guardian and some medium oatmeal. Forgot to mention in yesterday's Blog that we had run out of medium oatmeal to make the morning porridge with, found some pinhead meal and tried that. Uggh tasted awful, when Graham asked me how long we had the stuff couldn't remember, we worked out it must be at least 5 years old!!
Had a great walk on the beach, then lo and behold Ruaridh found a pigs head, we took him away from it, it was quite fresh and really symbolic as tomorrow the Chinese New Year starts and yes The Year of the Pig it is. The head looked very peaceful haven't a clue how it came to be there.
Did some gardening when we returned, Graham made a lovely minestrone soup with krispbreads, followed by tinned salmon sandwiches and salad.
Just listening to a programme about "The Small Faces" on Radio 2 good. Bye.

Stove out!

Had a super walk with Ruaridh today, thoughts as we walked where the Mountains reach the Sky were with Kirsty, a dear chum of Layla and Joe who has recently suffered a very sad loss. Nature is superb, and as we walked in the woods the trees were creaking and bending towards one another and the ground. Four ravens in flight were zooming over the tops of the trees, in perfect unison and cawing away like crazy! Ruaridh has his own adventures, and disappears into the undergrowth and woods then meets us further along the track.
Back home the stove had gone out, damn! anyway set too and got it relit and blazing again. Ruaridh not a happy bunny to be without heat.
Made bread, Graham made pasta alforno for dinner with salad lovely.
Knitting coming on fine legging's growing! Goodnight.

Annual Booster!

Today was the day to take Ruaridh to the vet for his annual booster injection, and his yearly MOT. He appeared to pass all with flying colours, and even though I told the vet he was on a diet he got two treats!
Today the weather was dreich and rainy, we had to go into Kyle for the afor mentioned, so decide to take Ruaridh out later. We went to the beach and the wind was blowing and the rain was tippling down, so that trip was aborted, then wet through as we were we took him to the woods on the road out, he loves it here and had a great time disappearing into the forest. Still wet we left for Kyle.
Managed to get all our messages, and see the vet, always forget something today it was the garlic
Arrived home, Graham made a lovely dinner fried rice and vegetables (again), this time with curry sauce and flat breads delicious!
Watched an interesting programme on BBC4 tonight Rageh Omar journalist visited Tehran, and met lots of interesting people from across the strata of society, quite revealing. Enjoyed. Goodnight.

Garden

Today in the afternoon, I started to get the garden organized, we have two raised beds in the front of the house and both needed all the old plants and debris taking out and turning over, so today I started! Graham was busy helping John a friend from the village to build a website to advertise The Lodge he is finishing, so that they can let same. I got stuck into the garden and four bags of rubbish were taken to the wheelie bin!
Went down to the beach today for Ruaridh's walk, before that popped along to the village shop to get our free range eggs from one of the crofts in the Glen delicious. It was lovely on the beach, lots of lovely photo opportunities, the beach and ocean looked great lots of lovely thing washed up by the tide.
Sewed up the red jumper for the wee Bella, starting on the leggings now phew!
Red pepper soup for starters, followed by left over leek quiche, roast potatoes and broccoli for dinner! Bye

Mail delivery!

Today got our first mail delivery since November. As we have been down in Edinburgh for the last few months, and the last time we were in the Glen I forgot to get the mail delivered, today was the day we received about six items of some importance and a pile of junk mail! It was good to see Doreen the postie, she said herself and Alistair were doing the Glenelg run at the moment.
Had a good walk in the woods, set off in a fine drizzle, bundled up once again in the merino's and this time in full wet weather gear. About thirty minutes into the walk we were roasting, the sun was out and the sky was blue, ah well one day will hopefully get it right!
Did not do much this afternoon, got the battery in the Jeep charged it had become dead from lack of use, attempted to finish the wee red jumper for Bella, tomorrow maybe!
Made chili for dinner attempted Persian rice with tadiq, no joy, the potatoes for the tadiq burnt and I only just rescued the rice, had nice thin flatbreads like we had to eaten in Damascus. Bye.

Sandaig

Today we decided to go to to Sandaig this is Gavin Maxwell country, it is here he lived with his otters and wrote the book "The Ring of Bright Water." Weather was OK not overbright and a light drizzle started on the walk down. Ruaridh loves being back in the N/W and was running in and out of the woods. The road down has been a victim of much storm damage, the last time we came down the path was strewn with fallen trees. Someone has started a clean up operation, lots of trees sawn through so that the way down is clear. Had a great time when we got there, took photographs for our blips, walked through the river over to the beach, the tide was in so could only make the one. Hoped to pick up some mussels but the water was to deep for us to get them, sometime this week? Ruaridh had the time of his life running like mad through the shallow water and the sand, on the way back in the woods he must have gone in a bog what a state he was in all black underneath!! he had a good wash in the river on the way home.
Did not do much on arriving home everyone rather tired after the long walk! Started to sew Bella's wee red jumper together.
Made Italian leek quiche, chips and green beans for dinner.
Watched "Travels with a Tangerine" on BBC4 new series following the travels of Ibn Battutah in the 14th century. Interesting.
Just going to have apple pie and custard. Goodnight

A cold wind a blowing!

Have had an easterly wind blowing all day making it freezing cold here in the Glen! Got up quite early as Ruaridh was on the rampage for rabbits. Had breakfast then hit the road down to the village shop and shore.
It was so cold down on the shore the wind was biting into our faces, lucky we have merino vests, merino long johns and duvet jackets so we were very cosy apart from our faces. Ruaridh just loved it running about after anything that was blowing in the wind, the pebbles on the shore must have hurt his wee paw as he was limping a little. Took quite a few photographs as interesting items had been blown up on the shore.
Back for lunch, spent the afternoon doing very little, spoke with Layla, Bella is fine and they had all been to view the new allotment that Layla found out about on Thursday, so pleased for her, she has waited about 3 years! see blipfoto.com/Lonely little petunia.
Graham made delicious leek and potato soup for dinner crunched down with garlic croutons mmm! followed by cheese and biscuits, espresso chocolate with a glass of red wine.
Thought this photograph illustrates the straight and twist of life. Goodnight.

A long trip.

Returned to the Glen today, had to go via Glasgow to visit Graham's mum. Up at 0800 hours this morning and we arrived at the house at 1830 hours some trip. Graham's mum appeared to be a little more settled, we took Ruaridh in to visit and most of the people in the home enjoyed that, apart from one old biddy who told me to get him out "Food here," said she!
The trip up was ok, Glen Coe was lovely with a faint dusting of snow on the mountains, ice on some of the lochs and icicles a go go! Stopped at our favorite spot to have a very late lunch and took the dog for a walk, it was freezing and snow flurries were starting.
Arrived safely at the house, very cold! got all the "stuff" away, Graham did the stove lovely warm fire! leek risotto for dinner with salad and foccacia, hmmmm!
Now to bed as I am very tired, Goodnight.

Helping!

Up early this morning as Graham had a check-up at the dentist, also we had promised to help Layla to get their old flat in 'shape,' snow on the ground when we awoke, just a light covering though. Had breakfast then took the car over to the east side, popped into the studio/office to take Joe a sandwich and say Hi to everyone as it is ages since I have seen them all. It was Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Hello all rolled into one!
I walked Ruaridh over to the house through the park, quite a lot of cats live in the area he makes a great deal about growling at them! Bella was looking lovely in a Star Babygro bought for her cousin Daisy by their Granny Karen and now on loan to her!
We all had lunch when Grandpa arrived, including the wee sausage! Then over to the other flat, did a bit of work walked back with the two "girls," then home.
The family came to us for dinner, shepherdess's pie, peas, apple pie and icecream and coffee quite good! Just going to try and look at some blips then to bed, as we leave for the Glen tomorrow! Goodnight.

Aubergine & Blonde Hair

Yesterday was my day to get my reduced in price highlights done at my haidresser's, this ritual was I think set up to encourage people to have their hair done after the Christmas/New Year holiday, which possibly used to be a slack period? Don't know if it is necessary to offer this now to entice people in, as most just seem to go and get their hair done when they want! Anyway had my aubergine and blonde highlights done, hair cut and sticking out all over, makes me feel great!
Went to visit Layla and Bella then we all walked over towards over to the hairdresser's, Bella in her Bear suit in the Bugaboo, lots of b's there!
Went back to Layla's for lunch she had to take Bella for her weigh in, now 8lbs 2oz a gain of 8oz in a week, the wee sausage is adorable, smiles when you speak to her, and makes noises when you ask her to tell you a tale!
Called at Waitrose on the way home, made the dinner for tonight as the family are coming.
Snowed a little last night, took Ruaridh down to the park and we met Cressie the dog with her owner Ben and his mum, they are nice folk, also Bonnie and her owner, all the dogs had a great run round and loved the little bit of snow. Goodnight.

Forgot!

Today I had to get up early as I had an appointment at the dentist, apparently as you age your teeth move about all over the place! Front upper teeth held in place by some form of plastic device, one of bottom teeth now out of place and pushing upper teeth, wow I'm a mine of useless information! The crux of all this was when I arrived at my dentist neither he nor I could remember why I was there "Great!' I thought it was possibly to have the offending tooth removed, he said no, as no work had been done to make a brace which I would require after an extraction. Ended up having the offending tooth filed down!
Back home breakfast, then a woman arrived who we thought was coming tomorrow to see Graham re his mum. Ah well a good day to forget!
After breakfast set off to The Garvald Factory at Gorgie with Ruaridh, had a great walk along the cycle path. Saw some of Layla's friends and some of the members who were asking about Bella. They also enjoyed playing with the dog, and he loved the attention. We had come to pick up some wooden platters that I had ordered at the Christmas Market, they are really well made out of Ash.
Had lunch, did not do much this afternoon quite tired after the walk. Dinner was vegetable risotto and salad. Going to do some knitting. Bye.
Oh my dear friend Denise is on her way to New Zealand today, part of her nursing degree, travel safely and enjoy the experience, and keep in touch! Au revoir and Bon Voyage!

One year on.

Today I have been writing my Blog for a year so Happy First Year to the Blog and me! This last year was one of the best ever, little did I know when starting this Blog that our grandaughter Bella Lachlan Tree would be born. She arrived into this world on 06/12/06 wee, lovely and very precious, she is a star! Gaining weight well, she was at Kirsty's birthday party on Saturday with her mum and dad, dressed to go in her Bear Suit she looked fandabby.
Up early this morning as I was going to meet my chum Jane for lunch at Susie's Diner, forgot her special birthday so this was my treat. Had a good lunch and a great chat catching up on people and events. Then walked into town to get messages as Chris was coming for dinner this evening.
Took Ruaridh for his walk still on the hard pavement, but his paw is much better.
Had a good evening with Chris, (she was telling us how Rose her daughter is managing on her trip to India,) good food and a great chat! Graham made dinner it was delicious Persian rice, Thai vegetable curry, sweet and sour aubergines and broccolli and ginger sauce, yoghurt and flatbreads delicious flavours and taste, super. Followed by almond halva!
A wee dram of Dalwhinnie malt before we walked Chris part of the way home. Goodnight

Sunny Day!

Another sunny day, cold and crisp but with the sun shining. Leisurely morning, took Ruaridh a walk, didn't make the park or woods this morning, made the park tonight and let the wee dog off the lead, he loved to be able to run on the grass sniffing at everything! His paw is much improved and today he finished his antibiotics.
Took loads of bottles to the bottle bank this morning they filled the boot of the car! had to say to a woman standing there that this was a years supply! Ruaridh came with me, he loves sitting in the front seat of the car! Cleaned the bathroom, always hate starting on it, but love to see it sparkling when finished!
Almost finished the wee red jumper it looks great! Had tomato sauce and pasta for dinner with salad and olives-good.
Watched Louis Theroux's programme about gambling in Vegas, interesting. Just going to do a little more knitting then to bed. Goodnight.

Clearing the shed.

Alongside the clearing of the garden which we started yesterday, we have to clear the garden shed as it is coming down! It is rotten and full of allsorts of things that are now falling apart, so into the bin with the lot. Found some interesting things, especially a bag of old badges that we had collected, probably for Layla, now quite rusty. Filled up the garbage bin, so more work after Tuesday when that is emptied.
Took Ruaridh quite a long walk on the road today, his paw is much better but we feel it is improving by walking on a hard surface.
Had a lovely surprise today, Irene a friend from work popped in to leave a pressie for Bella, by chance also found out she is a biker, well done Irene.
Minestrone soup for dinner, followed by tuna sandwiches. Waching a film "At Five in The Afternnoon" Samira Makhmalbaf a young Iranian woman's film about post Taliban Afghanistan, which was excellent. Really well portrayed.
BBC 4 had good programmes tonight, well done and so to bed. Goodnight.

Gardening

Today was the day we started to attack the garden here in Edinburgh, we have decided to redesign the front and back gardens. The front garden is small and is part of the courtyard, the back garden is not over large, but has just been under used for ages. Today small trees got lopped back, branches were bagged and all the Autumn leaves that had fallen were raked up, thank goodness it was a warm sunny day. We now have a bag of logs to go to the N/W, branches bagged to go to the tip and leaves to go into the compost bin to await collection.
We had quite a leisurely morning, took Ruaridh for his walk, then carried on with him to Homebase as we needed to buy gardening gloves, and some large refuse sacks. Ruaridh's paw appears to be improving he has been very good about it all but is desperate to get back to the park and woods, maybe tomorrow?
We did our weigh in this morning as Graham has started a diet, was great fun getting the weigh scales organised!! They are rocket science!
Pizzas and coleslaw for dinner, used some of the chilli tomato ketchup on the base delicious.
Going to take the wee dog for a walk, then do some knitting. Bye.

Crocus

Visited Layla and Bella today. Prior to the visit went to Boots pharmacy to buy some weigh scales as Graham is starting his diet! 2lbs a month for a year, I will attempt to join him so watch this space.
Bella was feeding when we arrived, every time we see her she has changed, yesterday Layla had bought her a lovely little dress as the three of them are going to Kirsty's thirtieth birthday partry on Saturday evening. As I walked up the path to the house I noticed that the crocus and snowdrops were starting to bloom they looked lovely in the sun.
Bella appeared to be ok after her immunisations yesterday, spent a good few hours with the two lassies, lovely soup for lunch, a good walk to Victoria Park and on the cycle path then home.
Ruaridh's cut paw is improving, he loves the fussing and the jam, he is hopping on three legs until he forgets then goes along on all fours. To be fair his paw was cut badly and he is coping well with it.
Mushroom and cheese omelette, roast potatoes and peas for dinner. Doing some knitting then to bed. Goodnight.

Rosenburgs

Just finished watching an excellent programme on BBC 4 about Julius and Ethel Rosenburg executed in June 1953 accused of being spies, reason for Blog being late. Programme was done by their grandaughter Ivy daughter of their son Michael and was very poignant, brought a lot of kith and kin into it, and friends who the Rosenburgs refused to name. These were the dark days of McCarthyism in America, and although , papers were produced from the CIA in 1995 showing Julius may have been involved in "something" it had nothing to do with what he was accused of, ie giving secrets of the Atomic Bomb to the Russians! It appears Ethel was innocent!.
Through to Glasgow yesterday to visit Graham's mum, a good visit. Journey there and back ok.
Baby Bella had her first batch of immunisations done yesterday wee sausage, hope to see her today or tomorrow, her mum is starting to make her some little dresses.
Ruaridh's paw is improving, though he is still walking on three legs bless him, trying to keep him out of the mud! Takes his antibiotics well in a big blob of jam!
Dinner by Graham last pm couscous and a tagine of vegetables delicious. Goodnight.
