Hogmanay.

We had a lovely day today I was up quite early, Graham feeling rotton full of a cold so he stayed in bed. Bella never awoke until 1000h so as soon as she was wide awake we had breakfast. I had to go to get messages so Joe, Layla, Bella and moi set off for Kyle oF Lochalsh, got the messages at the Co-op shelves almost empty, due to the amount of strangers in the vicinity? UGH on Hogmanay! We then went to Duirnish to a lovely bay, Ruaridh loved it and ran in and out of the water. Bella loved it and had a wee paddle in her new wellies.
Back home to a late lunch of Minestrone soup and bread. Then made the dinner veggie toad in the hole, roast tatties and peas, lovely! Bella retired to bed at 2130h and we waited for 2008 to peep around the corner.
Got the Champagane ready for "The Bells" then the four of us went onto the deck under a very starry sky with the wee fellow to bring in the New Year! and we did now sat watching Jools quite good. Goodnihght.

Tree for Bella

This morning we went into the woods to get a Fir Tree for Bella, we managed to get quite a nice one. When we left the house the fairy lights were working, when we got back they appeared to be kaput. Graham struggled with them for ages in fact for so long that Garry B arrived over for a visit. Good to see him again and he is looking great. Had a good chat with him, cups of coffee/tea and oatcakes to eat , then he left as time was marching on and I wanted to get ready for the family coming.
Ruaridh enjoyed being back in his woods this morning and had a couple of wee adventures.
Did some dusting and hoovering, then made the dinner, Pasta al forno, salad and foccacia, made the bread today as well.
The family arrived around 1800h poor wee Bella had been sick on the way up , however she soon appeared to settle in and enjoyed her dinner. Pud. was apple crumble.
Poor Graham is full of a cold and had to take to his bed, hope he improves so that he can enjoy the family being here.
Took Ruaridh for a run in the field, saw the owl amazing. Now to bed, goodnight.

Missed the coffee:)

Today we left Edinburgh to return to the Glen. As the journey takes about 4 hours we usually take something to eat and a warm drink with us, to have when we stop. Today I managed the sandwiches-bread and a hardboiled egg each but no coffee as I had left the vacuum flask down at my mum's in the Red Rose County! So a cold drink it was.
Arrived safe and sound at the cottage, with a car full to the roof, poor Ruaridh had to give up his seat, but Graham made a space for him to lie and he appeared to be cosy. All the messages away, beds made up as the family arrive tomorrow, hotties in. Graham got a cosy fire going with the logs we had sawn before going south for Christmas.
Made veggie stew, mashed tatties and broad beans for dinner which tasted very good.
Listened to the The Witches on Radio 4 by Roald Dahl part 2 tomorrow afternoon. Excellent!
Just had hot chocolate and rum, finishing my Blog then bed. Goodnight.

Scotland

Left the Red Rose County this morning to travel back to Scotland. Got away at a reasonable time, it had been good having mum here for the Festive Time I think she enjoyed it apart from getting the cold! Ordered The Guardian for mum every Saturday as part of her Christmas she seemed pleased about this.
The journey back home was quite good but the weather was atrocious, heavy rain, high winds and very misty in some areas. Arrived home at 1530h had a cup of tea and oatcakes before heading down to Waitrose to get our messages as we head N/W tomorrow for New Year! Did a big shop, came home frittered about, Graham, Joe, Layla and moi did our blipfoto's today to wish our young friend Elmer in Holland HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELMER he is 4years old and a star.
Made vegetable soup for dinner tasted really good, with fresh bread. Did the ironing, put the washing out, then took Ruaridh down to the park. Just had toast and Christmas cake with a cup of tea. Now to bed as we have another journey tomorrow. Goodnight.

Bella got a baby piano and entertained us no end banging away on the keys, dancing and singing.
We had a lovely meal I made a veggie pie using hot water pastry for the first time, though I say it myself it was delicious. The Christmas Pud was from The Duchy and a fine one it was too, with rum sauce made by Layla, Champagane all round one glass for moi as I was the driver tonight. Good shop busy, but as always easy to move around the store. Got all our messages and left to go to The Local Retail Park to buy a small Christmas tree and a couple of presents Hell! so drove out again as slowly as we did not want to!
Put the messages away, had a light lunch, then I cleaned the bathroom and the stairs before making my part of the dinner.
We had cauliflower cheese which I made whilst singing Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer to Bella over the phone! Graham did the roast tatties, and we had peas. Tasted good.
Wrapped up most of the presents, tired so just going to finish this then to bed. Goodnight.

Spinning

My head is spinning, had to go up to the city today as I needed to get the last of the Christmas presents, let me tell you I'm not a shopping person don't like crowds but needs must. The weather was sunny and quite warm so I didn't really need my 'puffa jacket' on, very uncomfortable in the stores.Went to the St James Centre no cash machines working as they had all been overused!! Hmmm managed to get money from the bank. Got most of my presents just something to get for Graham's mum then bingo!
Up early could not go back to sleep once I awoke, so got up and made the early morning tea. Had breakfast and a wash then took Ruaridh a walk along the cycle path, he met a golden labrador called Lucy and they had a great play. Back home Graham did not feel like going up town so I set off by myself. Met a lovely woman in her 80's at the bus stop, she was off to a friends "Pink Champagane" party good on her!
Back home mum has the cold, appears to be improving slowly this evening. Graham made a lovely butternut squash risotto with salad for dinner delicious.
Just finishing this then taking Ruaridh for a walk. Goodnight.

Playmate Mowgli

Today on tha cycle path we met Ruaridh's friend the Tibetan terrier Mowgli, he had been clipped and looked different, they had a great time playing together. Mowgli's owner told me that one of her client's had seen the blip that I put up of the two dogs the other day, interesting. She is getting another TT on the 27th and invited Graham and moi over for dinner or lunch to meet him -Humphrey is going to be the name!
Up quite early cup of tea with mum, breakfast then a shower, finished writing some christmas cards did some business. Going to take mum up town, however thick fog and icey conditions decided me against it. Walked over to the dreaded supermarket to get a few messages, then up to the vets to get Ruaridh his worm tablets, taken well in jam. The traffic was horrendous.
Did a little knitting, Graham made dinner wild Alaskan salmon in cream sauce with pasta and salad, delicious.
Watched a programme on Channel 4 about Unity Mitford and Hitler interesting. Took Ruaridh for a walk then watched the West Wing once again I fell asleep.
Away to bed. Goodnight.

Met Layla and Bella at the Fruitmarket Gallery for lunch, Bella on good form as usual, had a lovely lunch then went to get Ruaridh to meet Great Granny. When we got to the car he was curled up fast asleep on the blanket, so we went to meet mum without him. She had a good journey and was delighted to see Bella. Logging

Today was grey but dry, slept until 0845h as Ruaridh did not waken at all! Had another leisurely bath, mainly to use the boiling hot water that we have loads of at the moment, hair washed and ready for breakfast.
We decided to go into the woods today and see if we could find some hardwood trees that had fallen, phoned Christine our neighbour as she was keen to come and help.
Piled into the Jeep and away to the woods, found some trees but they were quite damp, then found this fallen Ash great, also dry and ready for burning. Christine was a great help and we all did our bit, with the rip saw. Ruaridh had a great time chasing everything that moved, he disappeared on numerous occasions!
Back home had a light lunch, Graham chain-sawed the logs and split them, we then stacked the dry ones in the shed and filled the house baskets. The damp ones are in the log store.
Christine stayed for dinner, leek quiche with homegrown leeks, roast fir apple tatties homegrown, bought carrots! swilled down with a can of Tennants! great.
Walked home with Christine and took the wee fellow, saw her hens that were on their perch for the night.
Having a cup of tea then bed, pooped. Goodnight.

Garden.

Up at 0600h to check on Ruaridh, he was laid on the sofa and the tail managed two weak shakes, he went into the garden and once again we had a visit from the owl. Back to bed fell fast asleep with the wee fellow between us and slept on. Decided to have a bath this morning as we have so much hot/boiling water. It felt great just lying and relaxing in the big tub. Cereal and toast for breakfast Ruaridh struggled through to have a small piece of toast, postie arrived with our mail.
Decided not to take the dog a walk but just "let him be" Graham busy with work so I started on the garden. Attempted to make it tidier, so that we can see what has to be done in Spring. Turned over one of the raised beds, then cleared most of the greenhouse. Ruaridh helped and found a mouse in a plant pot, he gave it a run for its money but then it escaped!
Had a light lunch, then Ruaridh and moi walked over to visit Christine. The day had been dull but dry, now it started to pour down. Arrived at Christine's Ruaridh as always delighted, some shortbread for me and him and lovely coffee for me. Had a nice chat, Christine is very kind and gave me some beer and wine as I forgot to bring any up. Also got some lovely free range eggs and a banana and date cake. Thank-you Christine.
Back home did some knitting, Graham making a lovely veggie Paella for dinner.
Going to have an evening watching Telly! Bye.

A Day at the Glen

Up early this am in fact up at 0615h as Ruaridh wanted out. Opened the door over the deck the wee fellow rushed out and two tawny owls flew off the roof to the West, their white wings loked amazing in the dark. Back to bed until 0900h up and about made tea and did some knitting.
Wash, breakfast then down to the beach to take Ruaridh for a walk, we had a lovely walk even though it was quite a dreich day.
Back home made some cheese scones as Christine our neighbour was coming over. As she was late most had gone by the time she arrived! Eventually Christine arrived and we caught up on all the gossip. Invited her to stay for dinner.
Pasta and tomato sauce, foccacia and salad for dinner.
Just chatting when the wee fellow started to throw up poor wee soul, took him for a short walk but he is still not very well.
Watching "The End Of The World Cult" very strange I really wonder at the world, or should I say some of the people in it! Bye.

Tawny Owl

We were met on our return to the Glen by Tawny Owl swooping down to meet us, at around 1630h. Love it.
Up early as we were hitting the road today and travelling back to the cottage. Wash, breakfast over to the dreaded supermarket to get one or two messages, Graham to get 'stuff' to discourage our little furry friends!
Had a good journey, great to see snow on the mountain tops, hope it comes lower for Christmas and the New Year!
Arrived safe and sound, stopped twice once to do a photograph, and then at Dog Pasha's favorite place. Went down to the canal, it was very full and too cold for the usual swim! ie for Ruaridh not moi:)
No mice when we arrived great, no owls in the lumb so soon got a fire going in the stove lovely and cosy now.
Just had a fry up for dinner great with mugs of tea.
Think it may be to bed early tonight, just watching Oz & James Great Wine Adventure-brilliant. Bye.

Hand Knitted Socks

Graham required some handknitted wool socks to wear with his wellies so I went to my new found shop The Royal Edinburgh Repository and Self-Aid Society. I found him a pair so hope they don't go into holes too soon.
Up early as I was going up to town to meet Layla and Bella, shower, breakfast then out to catch my bus. It was a lovely day sunny and cold, good to be out in it.
Met the two of them by The Christmas Market at the bottom of The Mound, we wandered round and it looked very good, Bella was in great form especially as we were in and out of the stores. In Jenners she aquired a balloon which her mummy attached to her pram she loved this.
Eventually we found our way to The Fruitmarket and had a lovely mezza for lunch, Bella really enjoyed it, we finished off with a Reindeer gingerbread and Bella loved this.
Said goodbye to the girls and made my way home, Ruaridh was delighted to see me as Graham had gone out to meet a friend for a drink. Played with him until he gave up.
Made Pizzas for dinner with coleslaw delicious. Graham came home about 2000h.
Sent lots of emails today to let people see the wee one on her First Birthday.
Just going to take Ruaridh then to bed. Goodnight
Edit: Hoping to go up to the N/W tomorrow.

Clean out Day

Well maybe a start, if we are going to rent out the house then we have to make a start somewhere. So today I attempted to get rid of all the clothes that we no longer wear-- to the charity shops tomorrow, still a long way to go.
Up late this morning as we had a night with the wee fellow up to our room, wanting out, etc, etc. Had breakfast then took him a walk along the cycle path.
There he met a new chum a Tibetan Terrier age 15 months the two dogs were a good size for one another and had a great time playing, and walking on the path, trying not to get in the way of the cyclists and pedestrians.
Got home and started to try and sort the clothes out, success with some. The family came over this afternoon and Miss B once again entertained us. Joe and Layla gave us the bottom of the futon so now we need to buy a mattress.
After they had left made sweet potato soup and then the Christmas cake which at this moment is baking in the oven. Sweet potato soup and toast for dinner lovely.
Watching a movie on Channel 4 In America very good! Goodnight.

Miss B's official Birthday!

Sorry about the non appearance of my Blog yesterday, I was busy finishing an assignment, then we took Ruaridh for a walk and when we got back it was turned midnight.
Today was Bella's 'official birthday' when friends came to share it with her. Got up quite late, had breakfast and a shower, went down for the Guardian and the heavens opened. The rain has continued all day and at one point was coming down as sleet!
We packed ourselves into the car and left to visit the family, Ruaridh stayed in the car until we sussed out the lay of the land! The Regal company included The Restalrig Royal Family The Earl of Berwick (North), Her Royal Madgness, The Duchess of St Clair, and the hoi polloi see blipfoto.com/JoeBlogs. The Dog Pasha was able to come in as all the company wanted him!
Had a lovely time and was good to chat to all the people, Miss B was as usual a star and the Earl (aka Uncle Donald) had written a poem in her honour which he recited. We had cups of tea and delicious cakes, and a great time was had by all.
Left to go to my Mall (Ocean Terminal), then on to Waitrose to get some messages.
Back home Graham made a lovely dinner wild salmon in cream, pasta and salad washed down with a good Sauvignon Blanc.
Now just relaxing, Graham has just told me about a good movie on TV only problem it doesn't start until 0315h!!

One Year old Today

Many Happy Returns on your Birthday Bella what a lovely day we have all had. Today was our little grandaughter Bella's 'Numero Uno birthday,' first thing we telephoned her to wish her a very Happy Day, then we had our showers and breakfast before taking Ruaridh a walk to the park and woods. He met a lovely Golden Labrador pup called Daisy and they had a great time playing together, then over to the dreaded supermarket as we needed to get some messages.
Back home Graham made pizza's for the Birthday tea party. Layla telephoned to say they had taken Bella to the zoo and she loved the monkeys! and they were on their way home, so we were to go over as soon as.
Packed the car up and drove over, Bella looked lovely in her new red dress and red dancing shoes. She had got some lovely presents and gifts from many people, when we arrived she was sat on her Ladybird Buggie a gift from her mummy and daddy.
Had a lovely time with lots of snacks and pizza to eat, Bella as usual was her happy wee self, especially when her Birthday cake appeared with the one candle. We all sang Happy Birthday to her then she blew that one candle out, The Champagne was delicious!
Stayed and had a curry with Joe and Layla, by this time Bella was in dreamland in a new sleepsuit under her baby duvet.
Dream on Bella and have a lovely year. Goodnight.

Toyshop

Today we had to go and pick up Bella's birthday gift from the toy shop, it remains a secret until tomorrow. Whilst we were in the store her Grandpa Graham saw some lovely little shoes/slippers that will match her dress so we bought them for her! We then went over to their house to wrap the gifts and leave them for Miss B to open tomorrow morning. Lovely blip of the wee one from Layla tonight on blipfoto.com/Lonely Little Petunia.
Up early as my mobile alarm went off, staggered out of bed to switch it off just got back into bed when the telephone went, apparently I had inadverently telephoned Joe when switching off my alarm and this was Layla phoning to see if we were OK?
Graham was busy trying to finish the mobile for Bella, so I took Ruaridh a long walk along the cycle path towards Roseburn, the weather was sunny with occasional showers. Managed to let Ruaridh off the lead for a short while, he was very good in staying close.
Called in at Waitrose on our way home from Layla's, we had veggie sausage and mash with peas for dinner with onion gravy delicious. Just had Ruaridh out to the park it is very windy. Goodnight.

Hot water

Yes tonight we are in hot water literally! Up early this am as the gas engineer was coming to fix our hot water that had been non-existent for the past week, yes we were getting fed up of filling the kettle. Anyway a nice guy came and worked very hard explained all that was wrong with the system and put it right.
Had breakfast before the engineer arrived, Graham took Ruaridh to the park and woods then took him to the studio for the day, as I had to go up town this afternoon.
The engineer left and I quickly got ready, after rearranging my blipfoto journal.
Managed to get all that I had set out to do, and some extra. Looked for a party dress for Bella found a lovely one in The Royal Edinburgh Repository and Self-Aid Society a unique charity established in 1882. Goods there are all new, handmade and of the highest quality. The full price of the purchase is passed onto the person who made it.
Picked up our watches they had to have new batteries, then trotted off to get the bus to visit Layla and Bella
Bella was in bed when I arrived but her mummy woke her up spent a lovely hour and a half playing with her she is so much fun.
Graham, Joe and Ruaridh arrived and we left for home.
Made bread, leek risotto with salad for dinner lovely.
Just waiting for the rolls to cool, then a cup of tea with one and to bed. Goodnight.

Glasgow Day

Today dawned bright and sunny, up early as we were going to visit Bella's other great Granny in Glasgow. Attempted to have a shower but due to the problem with the central heating, the hot water is spasmodic to say the least! However started off in warm water by the time I had almost finished it was hot.
Had breakfast Layla telephoned to say her and Bella were driving over so that we could all go through in our car. Bella looked lovely in her little shoes. Got organised in the car Layla and Bella in the back Graham, moi and Ruaridh in the front. Good drive through, went to Graham's mum's flat as he will have to give it up soon. Then down to the Home to see great Granny, Ruaridh had a good run round at the flat and the home different smells! Flowers for Granny were appreciated and she loved to see the baby, a good visit.
All very hungry so along to the LUV cafe for paninis and coffee. Drive back home was good, Bella slept all the way back. They left for home we had a cup of tea.
Fried potatoes, fried egg, mushrooms and beans for dinner why does this always taste so good. Bye.

Taking Bella out.

Up this morning ready for the shower, once again no hot water damn, so spent a period of time on the telephone trying once again to convince Scottish Gas that our boiler is crap and has been over the past ten years! The engineer comes on Tuesday morning so fingers crossed, once again I am not holding my breath.
Good wash, breakfast then over to the family's house as we were taking Bella out so they could do some cleaning. Had a great time with Bella and Ruaridh the wonder dog, first stop Victoria park for Bella to have a swing, then on to the toy shop as someone has a first birthday this week and a Birthday present must be bought-secret until Thursday. Into Real Foods got most of the ingredients for the Christmas cake, walking along Bella fell asleep. Then we walked to the Shore at Leith to have a cake and cup of tea. Then home again home again jigatty- jig.
Back to the house and Bella was delighted to see her mummy and daddy, stayed for a while then set off home.
Graham made a lovely dinner wild salmon in cream sauce with pasta and salad delicious.
Relaxing with white wine and TV ? Bye

Christmas Market

Awoke to the alarm this a.m. as we had a busy day ahead of us. Cup of tea, wash and breakfast then I took Ruaridh for a walk to the park and woods whilst Graham got ready. Had a good walk met some other dogs all much older than Dog Pasha, so though he was game to play I'm afraid they declined his offer! Back home down to get cash as we were going to Garvald Centre Christmas Market, which we always enjoy. Layla worked here and really enjoyed it, we met up with the family Bella looking lovely in her new dress adorned with a mushroom.
Had a nice time looking round all the different stalls, good job I had ordered my bakery items as most of it had been sold by the time we arrived. Went to have a coffee and listened to the choir singing carols, the harmony was lovely and Bella listened attentively, tra la la ing as we we left.
Ruaridh was a star and had a good sleep in the car. Up to Melville St. met the family then after I had wasted money for parking! went to meet up with Mick and Anne two very good and old friends from Hartlepool. Difficult to get a seat in a cafe to just have a drink so went into Frasers cafe and it was fine. Bella smiled for the two of them and they appeared to be very pleased to see her. Had a good chat then the family left, Graham and moi stayed on it was good to see them both. Eventually had to leave to rescue Ruaridh who once again had a good sleep in the car!
Back home starving had scrambled eggs on toast, followed by a big slice of panetone toasted and a mug of tea.
Cleaned out the freezer as the door had been left open!
Wild salmon in cream and pasta for dinner, just going to buy the white wine! Bye.
