Unexpected

Sorry no Blog yesterday, we had three unexpected but very welcome visitors in the morning and after that the day got very busy. We had lots of messages still to get for Graham who was travelling back up to the N/W on Saturday. First stop however was to have lunch with Layla and Bella, we then all piled into the car including Ruaridh and went to Homebase and Waitrose and got all that we wanted.
Back to their house as we were baby sitting Friday night as Layla and Joe wanted to go and see the new Indianna Jones movie. We had a great time and as usual Bella kept us amused. We had fish, chips and peas for dinner which was lovely and the wee one ate all of hers up. Got her ready for bed read a couple of stories and she was fast asleep within 10 minutes. Layla and Joe enjoyed the movie.
Today dawned another hot sunny day, we had a wash then breakfast before Graham and Ruaridh hit the road North, I then went into town to get the bus to Glasgow as I was going to see Graham's mum.
Bus journey there was fine and Betty was pleased to see me, we had a biscuit and a cup of tea then went to sit out on the balcony. Layla telephoned me and Betty managed to speak to her, soon she got very tired and so when she went to lie down I left.
Good journey home, spoke to Graham he is fine. Pasta, tomato sauce, salad and bread for dinner delicious.
Just watched the first past of Broken Trail on BBC 4 enjoyed it. Goodnight

Penicuik House

Today we had a lovely time Layla took us to Penicuik House Estate. The estate is amazing lots of trees, a lake that unfortunately today was empty, an lovely old house that sadly burnt down at the end of the 19 C. Today the facade of the house appeared to be having work done on it, the preservation work on the house is also providing training and educational facilities for young people. The most stunning thing today was the walled garden, a huge walled area facing south, the gates were lovely and all the walls are still in situ, the garden however has been allowed to become overgrown and fir trees have been planted there. On the far side of the south wall all the old potting sheds are still in place albeit in disrepair, sad to see.
The weather was warm and sunny especially in the walled garden, Graham, Layla, Bella, moi and Ruaridh had a super time, though I'm sure the wee fellow wanted to have an adventure but had to be kept on his lead.
After our visit here we went to IKEA as we had to buy things for the 'new' room, but before that we went to the cafe and enjoyed our fish and chips.
Light meal tonight of scrambled egg sandwiches and a big mug of tea with a wee chocolate biscuit.
Just going to have a cup of tea then bed. Goodnight.

Today it was the exams for the third year medical students and a very busy day it was, started at 0800h and finished ay 1830h, all in all a good day. Met up with lots of colleagues I have not seen in a while always good to catch up on news and gossip. Good to see lots of well kent faces amongst the patients as well.
Up early wash, breakfast then a walk to work, dreich day so not to sad to be working, this was the first damp I have seen in five weeks!
Went to the dreaded supermarket on the way home to get a few messages. Mum was at her clinic today her blood is getting to be at the level they want to see, so this next week she goes to the local clinic. The family appear to be OK, Layla and Bella met up with an old school chum of Layla's and her two bairns today and had a lovely time.
Graham made a lovely leek risotto for dinner which we had with salad.
Watched a programme about Mary Whitehouse on BBC2 tonight, never liked that woman! Goodnight.

Tired!

Travelled South today to Edinburgh as I have work starting tomorrow and Graham is having one or two hassles with his teeth so had to come down as well. We left the Glen in hot sunny weather to arrive in cold damp weather what a change. Went to see the family and have dinner with them, Bella had been to see a nursery today with her mummy and daddy as she is hoping to go for one day a week when she is two. We had a lovely meal curry with nan bread and yoghurt thanks Layla. Bella as usual entertained us no end she is a joy.
Busy at the house today and over at Christine's to water her plants, Ruaridh had a great time looking for rabbits then when we got home set off on his own to have an adventure! We left around 1415h, had a good journey down and arrived here about 1830h.
Home now and very tired so just having a cuppa then to bed, work in the morning yawn! Goodnight.

Omelettes for Lunch.

John H came today to work in the bedroom, it is almost finished now and the good news is the two upastairs windows have arrived at Jewson's so hopefully they will be delivered by next week. Another hot sunny day so we had lunch on the deck, Graham has become a dab hand at making small omelettes in the wok so he made these and we had them with bread and salad they tasted delicious, as did the cup of coffee.
Up early as John was coming, enjoyed my morning cuppa and then had a wash before breakfast, made a soda bread. Took Ruaridh for a walk along the river then into the fields were he can romp in the rushes and chase rabbits, though it was rather hot today even for him.
Worked in the garden, attempting now to start clearing the rockery--hard, hard, work but managed to get some done. Transplanted the leeks, now have three pots of them.
Had a lovely dinner cauliflower cheese, roast potatoes and peas followed by a chunk of soda bread.
Going to have a shower then a cuppa then bed. Bye.

Rabbit proof ?

This afternoon Graham planted out the lettuce in three of the fish boxes, it was my job to try and stop the 'horrible bunnies' from eating them. I found some supports and put chicken wire over the ends, then stretched green netting over them, now all in place fingers crossed that it works!
Up quite early made the morning cuppa sat outside to drink this as the weather was warm and sunny, had a wash then made a fry up for breakfast it tasted delicious. Used the pullet eggs that Christine gave us before she went away they are lovely.
Took Ruaridh for his walk along the river then up to the old croft, on the way I shouted for him as he was away on an adventure, imagine my surprise to hear this voice from the other side of the river say yes, is he human or a dog:)
Back home got the deckchairs out on the deck and spent some time sunbathing. Cleared two more raised beds phew think that's the beds finished now.
Late snack, spoke to Layla they are all well Bella has now got a step up which she loves to sit on. Mum appears to be getting on OK
Had veggie fried rice with mushrooms in a sauce for dinner thank you Graham.
Just watched Jonothan Dimbleby on his journey through Russia on BBC2 great TV. Very interesting! Bye.

Ruaridh and Postie

Today Ruaridh hitched a ride with Postie back to the house, from our neighbour Christine's. Thomas her brother was visiting her and she was going back to his home for a short holiday, we had visited him and his family earlier in the year. We had walked over with the dog and had a chat and cuppa, we were just leaving when Lexi the postie arrived with the mail and encouraged the wonder dog to jump in the post van which of course he did and she drove him home whilst Graham and moi walked! She put him into the field and he waited there for us as large as life.
Today has been a super day warm and sunny even the wind was warm, went to the beach and who should be there in their camper van but John and Auria, good to see them and we had a chat before taking Ruaridh for a walk along the shore. Ruaridh just waits now for the skimming stones and loves running into the sea to try and find them!
Later on had lunch sat on the deck, then turned over a couple of raised beds and the fish boxes. Made pear marscapone custard.
Graham made a delicious dinner lobster in cream and brandy sauce with really good spaghetti, salad and bread. super!
Just enjoying a malt whisky still to do the dishes. Goodnight.

Ticks and Fleas

Had a trip over to Broadford today to visit the vets to get the wee dog's protection against ticks and fleas. Normally we get 'Frontline' for this but today I was told that this is now not as effective as it was, as there are large infestations of ticks in the
N/W that are managing to survive this. So we picked up a packet of the new stuff 'Advantix' so we will see how this works. Ruaridh did get badly attacked by ticks a week ago so hopefully this stuff will do the trick.
Went to take some photographs but the light and weather were wrong! Went for a walk on the footpath to Balmacara didn't get there but Ruaridh enjoyed his run in the woods, also lovely to walk along the lochside and see the reeds and flowers. Popped along to Duncraig Nursery to get compost and one or two plants.
Back home to a cuppa and a big piece of toast-very hungry.
Spoke to Layla they are out to two venues tonight, enjoy. Mum appears to be OK and coping quite well.
Did some ironing, then had veggie, prawn paella for dinner lovely.
Spoke to Sue in Canada she will be here for a visit in June looking forward to that. Bye.

Missing

We were in the forest today to collect fallen and dead wood, we pay to do this. It costs 20GBP for a 3 months licence and some hard work with the rip saws and loppers, but on a warm sometimes sunny day it is lots of fun, especially when the wee dog disappears. We had collected quite a large amount of timber when the midges started to appear and bite so decided to leave, we called and whistled of Ruaridh to no avail, so we headed for home. Emptied the logs off the Jeep had a drink and a pee then set off to find the dog, just got on to the road when who was running towards us yes the wonder dog!
Back home sorted the bread dough I had made earlier in the morning, then had lunch sat outside. Baked the bread, stacked the logs as Graham sawed them with the power saw, sorted the onion bed that the rabbits had attacked gave the onions a good watering! Shouted and whistled for the wee fellow who had disappeared again-came home for his dinner!
Spoke to Layla, the family are fine, spoke to mum she appears to be coming on well, went to have her hair done today.
Made leek quiche for dinner which we had with roast potatoes (courtesy of Graham) and peas it tasted delicious, probably 'cause I was very hungry.
Going to do some knitting. Bye.

Mowing and strimming.

Awoke to the sun peeping throgh the curtains, well my second time of coming too. Had to get up for a pee at 0630h and Ruaridh awoke, he came upsatirs but refused to settle, so back downstairs and out he goes to do what he had to do! He then came back upstairs and we all went back to sleep for a couple of hours. Early morning cuppa, then we had porridge, toast and coffee for breakfast. Quick wash then hung out the washing before taking Ruaridh for a long walk in the woods which he thoroughly enjoyed, great to be back in his kingdom. Really enjoyed the walk the weather was warm and even the wind was warm.
Back home had lunch then got stuck into mowing the lawn whilst Graham did the strimming. Managed to get three lots of washing done today. Spoke to Layla she is OK, spoke to mum after her visit to the clinic she is getting on fine just need to get her stablised on her new drug.
Graham made asparagus risotto with salad for dinner delicious.
Watching Bob Dylan's Indian Birthday on BBC4 very interesting. Bye.

Happy Dog

Today we headed back to the Glen, we had a good journey that took us about four hours, Ruaridh slept most of the way but he enjoyed a wee run in the heather when we stopped on the lochside for a late lunch. He was delighted to be back home, jumped out of the car and raced round the garden a few times, then disappeared, when I shouted of him he came running down the track so goodness knows where he had been.
Visited Waitrose to get messages got 6 GBP knocked off the total amount to be paid so that was good, Waitrose sent us some vouchers so we used one!
The family are all OK, my mum appears to be managing quite well, Anne is back and takes her to the clinic tomorrow.
Pasta, tomato sauce, salad and bread for dinner lovely.
Tired so going to bed. Bye.

Seacliffs Beach

We had a super time at Seacliffs beach this afternoon with the family. We arrived there around 1400h and stayed until the wind got cold and blew us home. This beach is in East Lothian and is an amazing beach, with rocks at either end and even though it was an Edinburgh holiday tthe beach was quite empty. We found a good place to sit and enjoyed our picnic, Bella enjoyed her crisps and cheese croissant but did not like the sand on her feet. However she enjoyed a walk with me as long as the red socks were on. Ruaridh was in his element the minute he was on the beach racing around and running into the ocean after skimming stones, also attempting to dig to Australia, a much happier wee dog today. He also went a walk with Joe and Bella and was in his element.
Back to the family's for a Chinese takeaway? for dinner, every time Joe phoned the takeaway the chap who answered the phone couldn't speak English so no order. Poor Joe, eventually Graham and he went to the shop to give the order and bring home the food which was delicious, Bella loved the prawn crackers and her Granpa's mushroom rice. We said bye to the family as we are heading back to the Glen tomorrow.
Tired tonight after a day in the fresh air. Goodnight.

Telephone calls.

I called my chum Liz who lives in Aberdeenshire, she was having dinner and said she would call me back. The phone rings and by the time I answer the person has rung off, the telephone rings again thinks me this will be Liz but no it's Al my chum's hubby phoning from Canada, who then puts Sue onto the phone. I was a bit taken aback when she asked me what I was doing in June, however she is coming over to visit her aunt and uncle and would like to visit us in the N/W, that would be great.
Early morning cuppa, breakfast and shower then took Ruaridh on the cycle path for his walk, he gets sooo fed up in Edinburgh no long walks, no deer and rabbits to chase, he is desperate to get back to his Kingdom in the Glen. Though he did help me in the garden today by chasing the leaves:)
Graham is out at the pub with two guys he used to work with, so Ruaridh and moi did some gardening this afternoon, it is hard work as the soil at the back is very hard. Made pasta and tomato sauce for dinner with bread and salad lovely. Going to check what is on TV, then maybe do more knitting. Bye.

Walk on the cycle path!

Today we took Ruaridh for a walk on the cycle path, he appears to be quite tired and does not enjoy being in the city. We were out for about an hour and the rain held off! Did not get a long sleep last night the wee fellow was up to our room about 0230h, he wanted out and then slept on the floor in our bedroom, before he jumped up onto the bottom of the bed and by morning he was curled up between Graham and moi:)
We had croissants for breakfast and a big mug of coffee, a wash and then out.
Back home beans on toast for lunch and a read of the paper, tried to have a doze very tired, Ruaridh thought it was a game and kept trying to get me to open my eyes.
Got ready to go to the family's as we are looking after Bella as Layla and Joe are invited to a BBQ for friends who are moving out of Edinburgh. Popped into Waitrose to buy a pizza and other messages.
Bella was in good form she makes us laugh, always a joy to be with, she loved her yoghurt and blackcurrant sauce for dinner not forgetting her olives! the pasta was no go! though the dog enjoyed his. We had a half a pizza and homemade coleslaw which I enjoyed. Played with and read to Bella then got her ready for bed, she is so good took her up and cleaned her teeth and then read a couple of books to her put her into her cot gave her a big kiss goodnight and laid down on the rug at the side of her bed.
Some chatting, one shout Ma & Da, a wee cry, peeping at me then in under 10 minutes she was fast asleep. So will I be soon. Goodnight.

First David and Andrew the gardeners, then Handy Sandy the handyman, last but not least we had the upholsterer bring back one of mum's chairs that required some work! Between eating breakfast and making cups of coffee I managed to sit in the garden for an hour or so in the sunny, warm weather.

Sunny again today but a cooler breeze got some messages, and then mum and I returned home. Today mother's friend Cathy came to visit and brought her ten day old grandaughter Jasmine. Upside down times.

Should have gone to the clinic at the hospital today for mum's review, however she had a stomach upset yesterday then pains in her side so I decided to cancel the appointment. Awake at 0500h as mum was disturbed she didn't want anything but this is when I decided to cancel the clinic, too much for a wifey of 88 years. Secretary to the consultant very nice when I telephoned, a new appoinment will be sent out.
Had breakfast and then a wash, mum does not appear well at all very dozy and sleeping long periods, when she got up to the lavatory she appeared to be in lots of pain so I called the Dr. He was kind and came straight away, could not find anything just some tenderness over her ribs on the left hand side.
He left and we had a cuppa, I changed the paper lining the cupboards under the sink, then out to the shops. Saw Anne and Muriel then went down to the dreaded supermarket to get some messages.
Home warmed a tin of Heinz tomato soup for mum which she had with toast, I had rice and veggie curry with nan and yoghurt.
