Birthday Boy

Joe was born on the 29th February so only gets his birthday every four years on that date. This evening we are going out to celebrate his day on one of his un-birthday's. We went to Chop Chop our favorite Chinese restaurant this evening and had a delicious meal, followed by lovely chocolate cake made by Layla and Bella at their house. We sang Happy Birthday and clapped For Joe.
Had a wee lie in this morning after getting up at 0800h with Ruaridh. Then up to make a cuppa, before breakfast, rolls and coffee for breakfast then I had a shower and washed my hair before taking the Wonder Dog out to Ravelston woods.
Good walk Ruaridh had a play with a dog whose owner was attempting various tricks on his mountain bike! needless to say the wee fellow kept getting in the way-ah well!
Home caught up with some reading and knitting, phoned mum she is feeling a wee bit better we are hoping to go down in a couple of weeks!
Got ready for the evening outing which I thoroughly enjoyed. Thanks guys.

Birthday cake

Rained hard all last night and seeing some plants blown over in the back yard must have been very windy too! After breakfast and Graham had left for the studio and moi having a big time discussion with Scottish gas (our hot water is playing up again)! in a hail storm Ruaridh and moi set off for the woods.
Great walk but very wet and muddy, back home phoned mum she is feeling better then set off to see Layla and Bella, we are looking after Miss B this evening as Joe and Layla are invited to a record launch. Called in at Waitrose to get my messages then over to theirs.

MOT for car.

Drove the car to Albion Rd garage today for its annual MOT and service, got there about 1000h, the boys there are a real crack, said the car should be ready for around 1600h.
It was raining as Ruaridh and moi set off down Easter Rd to get to Leith Links where he could have a run, didn't get too wet and the wee fellow had a good walk. Over then to meet with Layla and Bella before going to buy some more Seville oranges and sugar to make more marmalade.
Waited outside the church hall for them as they were at playgroup, they came out and we bought the stuff.
Back at theirs Layla worked hard with the oranges getting them ready for the pot. I played with Miss B, we read books, played at shop, played at going to the hairdressers, then we had a lovely lunch. Afterwards I helped Layla a little to cut up the peel.
Phoned the garage at 1530h as Graham was going to pick up the car, not ready as a wheel bearing was kaput, told the guys I would pick car up on Friday-fine. Graham came to the house, guys from garage phoned to say car would be ready at 1645/1700h so Layla offered to take us round to garage. had a cuppa whilst we waited, Bella and her dollies and moi went on a amping trip with Ruaridh!
Picked up the car, home, Layla had given us some ricotta and spinach pie so did roast potatoes and peas lovely dinner.

We all had a cuppa either tea or coffee as we waited for the dinner, dinner was ok think I prefer the Cauldron or Frys sausage to the Quorn ones I used. A wee blether!

Down to the beach today for our daily constitutional, as Graham was doing some photography with the tripod The Wonder Dog and moi went for a walk down the beach. Did some stone throwing into the sea Ruaridh thinks this is great and attempts to find the stone! He also found some ? rabbit holes in the sand and started to dig furiously into them, as the sand kept collapsing on his head I had to eventually drag him away much to his disgust.
Met up with an old acquaintance and we had a chat-- well more of a village gossip, learnt quite a few things. Also bumped into two guys enjoying the view:)
Up early this morning with his lordship fed him and out into the garden then back to bed. Up later early morning cuppa from Graham, then a lovely bath and hair wash before breakfast. Porridge again I love it, then a roll and strawberry jam with coffee.
Did a wee bit of cleaning then set off for the beach. Before going I phoned mum she is so full of a cold maybe she should get the Dr tomorrow morning will see.
Back from the beach made dough for pizzas had lunch then Christine arrived, more tea and chat. Made the pizzas for dinner tasted good, Christine did not stay, she wants a lift down the road tomorrow, as we are returning to the city that will be OK.

Mussels

Set off down to the beach about 1430h as we were hoping to collect mussels for dinner and low tide was at 1600h. Had a lovely walk and met up with Peggy and her husband Donald and their collie dog. Had met Peggy and the dog a couple of times previously and had a chat, this was the first time of meeting her husband. Stood and caught up for a few minutes then we went to get the mussels. Managed to get quite a lot off the rocks the sea had just washed over, a beautiful day early morning frost, blue sky and lots of sunshine.
Up and about with Ruaridh at 0730h then back to bed awoke about 0930h made the early morning cuppa which I enjoyed in bed. Got up and made porridge for breakfast it tasted delicious with honey and milk followed by toast and coffee. Had a wash then into the garden to do some more tidying, Graham sawed some branches off the cherry tree to give the plum tree more space. Made the dough for the bread.
Back home had a late lunch spoke to Layla and Bella busy day for them meeting people. Did some knitting.
Graham did the mussels a new way with tomato sauce and pasta delicious with homemade bread.
Watched some programmes on 4OD interesting. To bed tarted a new book looks promising. Goodnight

Sun= Warm

Hurrah! the sun was so strong today the air actually got warm, super day with lovely blue skies, even thought of having lunch on the deck:)
Got up saw to Ruaridh, back to bed with a cuppa had a read. Up had a wash made breakfast, then as Graham had decided to saw logs, started to tidy the garden. Managed to fill three bags with garden debris, lovely to see the wee plants pushing up through the earth, especially as most nights the ground is covered in quite a thick frost!
The chain on the saw needs replacing so no more sawning, sorted the ones already done then decided to go to the village shop then onto the village beach. Had a lovely walk in gorgeous weather, the wee fellow running all over the place, though he was sad that the burns were frozen--no stone throwing!
Back home sewed Miss B's cardigan together, did my blip, had lunch, listened to the afternoon play on Radio 4. Then went out to do a bit more gardening.
Spoke to Layla and Bella they had been to Gorgie farm with Eve and had a great time looking at the animals. Spoke to mum poor her she is full of a cold again, so is staying in and keeping warm!
Had our G&T's then a lovely dinner of tattie and leek pasties made by Graham.
Bit tired going to read then to bed as I want to get more of the garden done tomorrow. Bye.

Vets

Today was the day the Wonder Dog was booked in for his annual MOT, done this time by a lovely German intern vet who thought Ruaridh was the 'Cats PJ's':) Drove down to Ruaridh's beach around 1500h it was so lovely the sun breaking through the clouds onto the sea. The Wonder Dog was in his element rushing all over sniffing here and there. Eventually into the car and away to Kyle.
First stop the Co-op to get some messages, still a laugh a minute here! Then to the Mace shop to get the messages we couldn't get at the Co-op--what a surprise shelves quite bare and the back area that sold the upmarket produce was closed??
Down to see Alan the vet and Ruaridh introduced to the intern! All's well with the wee fellow who got a treat for his endeavour's. Called at the Balmacara store on the way home that too had little on offer and the shop was being made smaller??
Spoke to Layla and Bella on our return they appear to have had a good day, out to 'Soft play' and then over to play with Eve at Megan's. Spoke to Mum her INR is fine next visit in 3 weeks.
Had a lovely bath and washed my hair this morning, then we went mad and had a fry up for breakfast!!
Pasta with courgettes in a cream sauce with parmegiano and salad with homemade bread- lovely.
Watched a film tonight filmed in Wales about a village-'Sleep Furiously' very good especially using the mobile library van as the thread.
Tired to bed. Goodnight.

Snow!

Left the city to come up to the cottage for a few days, the further North we drove the more snow we came across. We stopped at one point for a pee and to take photo's and entered this amazing Winter Wonderland after climbing over the high fence, poor Ruaridh wondered what had happened when we lifted him through the fence and he landed in 2 feet of snow. Where has the dog gone:)
Drove on arrived around 1530h no low lying snow in the Glen, got the two log stoves going quickly, everything unpacked, hotties in the bed and a welcome cuppa in the hand.
Decided to have minestrone soup followed by tinned salmon sandwiches and a cuppa delicious.
Watched 'Syrian School' on BBC4 this time about a Palestinian school showing different aspects-- excellent. Tired so to bed. Goodnight.

Yesterday awoke to the sun and a blue sky--, thought I would take the Wonder Dog to the beach as we haven't been there in a while.
When we arrived the dark clouds gathered and spots of hail came down it was bl--dy freezing.

Did some ironing and then started to get dinner ready. Took Ruaridh to meet Graham off the bus on the park we met Dolores and Ziggy the dogs had a great play!
Fish pie and peas for dinner. Finished most of the knitting of the cardigan just to sew up and do the borders now. To bed.
Up this morning frost and mist very cold! After Graham had left Ruaridh and moi went to the park and woods, on the way there we saw Phoebe a neighbours dog running on the road, took her home Jackie her owner was not there, got her son out of bed though! Met Jackie on the park told her where the dog was!
Had a good walk met lots of dog walkers, and of course the dogs. Ruaridh had a great play with Jessie the Golden Cocker Spaniel pup, she is hilarious. Lovely to see the wee crocus popping their heads up through the earth.
Made pancakes, today is Pancake Tuesday, also got the dough ready for the bread.
Listened to the afternoon play on Radio 4 'English in Afghanistan' well worth listening too.
Going to do some ironing then will pack as we are going to the Glen tomorrow.

Paddington Bear

Today Paddington Bear came out of the attic and went home with Miss B. Over the past few months she has grown to love having 'Paddington' stories read to her, she likes when he gets into a mess which is most of the time.
Layla and Bella arrived for lunch after going to a movie with Jessie and Daisy, Graham did a brilliant photo/cartoon of the handing over of Paddington Bear on blipfoto.com/A Dog's Dinner.

Did some knitting, spoke to mum she had a nice time at Jennifer's 18th Birthday party. Happy Birthday Jen! 18 years old today!
Risotto for dinner, as it is Valentines Day we had Champagne with it Oh la la!!
Finished reading 'Let the Great World Spin' by Colum McCann a brilliant read. The main thread running through the book is about the tight-rope walker who walked between the Twin Towers in 1974. Graham is now reading it, I could have gone on reading this book surely the sign of a good book!.
To bed. Goodnight.

Outing

Today we were invited over to Karen's, Joe's mums for coffee and we also stayed for lunch! The family were there, also Joe's sister Jessie was there with Lee her partner, Daisy and Lola. A lovely time was had by all.
Left Ruaridh in the car as the cat at K's would not have appreciated his presence. As we had a long walk to the playpark and back with Ruaridh, he was was quite tired so I think he slept whilst we were in the house.
Home about 1500h made dough for bread spent the rest of the afternoon knitting and reading the Guardian.
Made the bread, mushroom omelette and rolls for dinner- lovely.
Lazy evening doing very little-knitting and reading to bed. Goodnight.

Marmalade

Today was the day for making marmalade, the Seville oranges I had in the freezer for 12 months were no good:) however Layla had bought some yesterday to make marmalade today. Up early saw to The Wonder Dog, shower and hairwash, breakfast then into the car with Graham who was going to the studio, and over to see the girls.
Arrived, chatted to Mary one of Layla's neighbours then down to the house. Had a wee play with Bella then we set off for a walk with Ruaridh to The Water of Leith, stopped at the playpark on the way for Miss B to have a slide and a swing. Sadly some idiots had swung the wee ones swings over the bars so she had to make do with the slide, lots of laughs.
Lovely walk along the waterside, bought more oranges and sugar then back to the house for lunch. Lovely lunch then all hands to the deck to make the marmalade, Bella worked very hard squeezing the juice out of the oranges I helped with this, Layla cut the peel into strips then I helped with this.
Eventually all into the pot, it smelt delicious as it was cooking. When finished it looked, tasted and smelt lovely, hope it sets?
As well as making the marmalade had great fun playing with Bella, we read, played at animal hospitals, swam on the floor, had coffee and biscuit at the hotel-what an imagination.
Graham and Joe arrived, lovely coffee then home.
Graham made a super curry with rice and prawns, bought chapatis, a laugh a minute in the take away, two phones kept ringing when answered one cancelled the other out-like a live sit com hallo hallo etc.
Catching up on blip and blog. Phoned mum she is OK. Bye.

Coffee with J

Great sleep last night. Awoke around 0800h saw to Ruaridh, had a wash, had breakfast then left with Ruaridh and Graham in the car. Graham required the car so he dropped the Wonder Dog and moi off at Inverleith Park as I was going to visit my chum Jane C for a coffee as she will be away from Edinburgh for a while. Spent a good morning having a chat, nice almond croissant and cuppa coffee, Ruaridh enjoyed the visit as Jane adores him, said au revoir and we trotted off to visit Layla and Bella. On the way there met a woman who had a Border Terrier in her car, the wee bitch was 9months old and lovely.

Lovely walk there, cold and sunny, we cleared the greenhouse, Bella found 'treasure' in a bean pod 4 beans, Ruaridh roamed around great to be working in the fresh air! Noisy

Fairly quiet start to the morning up early as Graham had a meeting, saw to Ruaridh, then breakfast. Once Graham had left I had a shower and washed my hair before getting ready to take the Wonder dog for his morning constitutional. Went to the park and woods as we were early it was quiet until half way along the path we met quite a few dog owners with dogs-they were all chewing the cud whilst the dogs moved aimlessly around. Said hi, as Ruaridh was not interested in playing we moved on and had a lovely walk.
Back home and all hell broke loose. Over the past few days the Wonder Dog has taken to sitting on a stone in the garden gazing onto the surrounding plots, today he was doing this. However when I opened the back door to throw out the rubbish he rushed out behind me and started barking like crazy and scampered behind G's scooter, on investigation I saw a golden fluffy tail OMG a cat thought I. Then I heard this loud hissing noise Ruaridh by this time was spinning round attempting to reach the creature and rocking the scooter, I looked and saw it was a Fox.
Quickly grabbed the dog and shut him in the house, the fox didn't move, I threw out a crust of bread and away it hopped, it looked emaciated.
Phoned the SSPCA who were very good but said if the fox was mobile on three legs they would have trouble catching it, would I keep an eye on it and let them know if it collapses?
Poor Ruaridh he does feel thwarted he didn't get his foe! I don't think he has forgiven me yet!
Spoke to mum she appears to have got her medication sorted and is feeling better. Cleaned the stairs and hall, after doing the bathroom and lounge yesterday.
Had lunch did some knitting and listened to the play on Radio 4. Did the ironing.
Took Ruaridh for his afternoon walk he had a good play with Bria and Ziggy, then on to meet Graham off the bus.
Cullen Skink for dinner added sweetcorn delicious! Knitting, blipping, blogging. Tired Goodnight.

Quiet Weekend

Yesterday Saturday was quiet mucked around for most of the day, before taking the Wonder dog to the woods. Then went over to the family's as we were looking after Bella as Joe and Layla were going out for dinner.
We had a great time looking through one of Miss B's books she got in her Treasure Chest from the library. We enjoyed our veggie burgers and chips for dinner, then we watched some animated Fairy Tales on a DVD Layla borrowed from the library-amazing. They were all produced in what would have been Eastern Europe and they are just fantastic- Goldilock's appeared to be on 'acid'. Nuff said!
Bella then went to bed and was soon in dreamland after telling me 'I'm not sleepy!
Graham and moi watched a programme about Michael Angelo, and then one about the trains in Bombay both very interesting! Layla and joe hd a good time when they arrived back we headed home.
Up this morning with the Wonder Dog 0800h on the dot, he had his breakfast and out in the garden, made the cider vinegar and honey potion then back to bed. Read for a wee while then crashed out until 1030h. Read the paper then up and made breakfast-a fry-up lovely. Had a wash, pottered then took the wee fellow to the woods, good walk and good to see the new life (shoots) appearing in the earth.
Back home cake and tea, phoned mum she is still full of a cold, spoke to Layla and Bella who with Joe went swimming today.
Made bread, did some knitting read an interesting article from last weeks Review in the Guardian 'The Iliad'--The first book of War, excellent.
Graham made leek and pea risotto for dinner with salad--lovely.
Watched 'The Bible' on Channel 4 with Ann Widdecombe she has Faith! Just going to watch 'The Seven Ages of Britain' with David Dimblby. Bye

Catch up time!

For various reasons have not been able to do my Blog over the past week(s) so this is a 'catch up' one! On the 26th January Graham, Layla, Bella, Ruaridh and moi piled into Joe's car and hit the highway to St Annes on Sea. It was the memsahib (my mother's) 90th Birthday she knew Graham and moi were going down, Layla and Bella wished to surprise her!! We had a great journey down, Bella slept some of the way and we entertained ourselves by singing songs and eating veggie sausage rolls and sipping coffee. Hopefully mum got a nice surprise when we arrived. We all decided to have fish & chips with mushy peas for dinner-lovely.
Wednesday morning was awful lots of rain and cold and windy, Graham was staying at the Grand Hotel as he had work to do and mother's is always busy. This turned into a disaster with workmen drilling and hammering in the room below his, so he found a new place! I took the dog for a walk on the beach and got very wet in fact I was soaked, spent the day chatting and playing with Miss B, in the afternoon went shopping. Had a lovely dinner of pasta with olive and pepper tomato sauce courtesy of Layla.
Thursday morning we had breakfast, as Heiner was flying in from Germany in the afternoon we had decided to have Cullen Skink for dinner. Only thing was we required undyed smoked haddock so had to go to Lanighan's in Lytham to buy it. We decided to walk there it was still cold and windy but no rain, had a great walk and the wet fish shop was superb! Caught the bus back had lunch. Graham and moi went to the station to meet Heiner who got in at 1525h. Back to mum's Heiner had a chat with mum I got the Cullen Skink ready for dinner, lovely to sit round the table with everyone for dinner, Bella enjoyed herself as did Ruaridh waiting for tit-bits! Walked to their respective hotels with Graham and Heiner then to bed.
Friday dawned very cold, had breakfast, the wee one was out on her bike on the street then we took Ruaridh for a walk on the shore. The snow started Bella was frozen, dashed back to mum's for her red suit, the guys took her for a hot chocolate in the Lifeboat cafe. Got messages then back for lunch, Layla had her hair cut at Toni and Guys-lovely. Made rolls for the veggie burgers we were having for dinner, Layla did potato wedges. Joe arrived Bella beside herself to see her daddy, cake and champers down with him! All change, Joe, Layla and Bella to their hotel, Graham to mums.
Saturday up early-Party Day! mum to hairdresser's Raymond her hairdresser cracks me up! down to hotel with champers, cake, balloons etc! Layla saw to all the arrangements.
Got ready drove mum to hotel for her Birthday Party, there were about 55 people there and a good time was enjoyed by all-lovely to see everyone again haven't seen some relatives for 10 years! People enjoyed the food, the chat and Jenny B's singing. Toast to mum for her 90 years and to 'absent friends'. Home by 1700h, ordered a meal for us from 'The Moghul' Hari B stayed for dinner.
Very tired to bed.
Sunday we travelled back to Edinburgh great journey in lovely sunshine. Leek risotto for dinner. Bed-goodnight.
Monday up early as I had a two hour appointment at the dentist to have two crowns fitted, then my good buddy Sue was arriving Edinburgh with Amber her daughter and Safia. Finished dentist, up town to wait to hear from Sue, good time shopping, drinking latte's and eating buns, no need to rush as Ruaridh was at the office. Heard from Sue they are at Jury's Inn, over to meet them, good to see Amber again and meet Miss Safia 7 months old, always good to see Sue. Joe and Layla had kindly offered dinner for tonight, as the girls agreed we made our way to their house, via Stockbridge and Florentine's where we had coffee tea and buns! Spent a lovely evening good for all to meet up again.
Tuesday I took the dog to the woods for a good walk he met Jock and had a great play, then took him to the office via Waitrose as I was going to meet the girls before going to meet Miss B. Sue came with me and then we met up with Amber and Safia at the wool store. After which we trotted off to meet Graham, Layla and Joe at Pizza Express for dinner, had a lovely time and the bairns were so well behaved.
Wednesday quick walk and play in the woods for Ruaridh as I was going to the station to say cheerio to the girls as they are heading back to Canada tomorrow. Made it and said my goodbyes hope that soon there can be more hello's their train left and I came home. Got ready to go and stay with Bella for a couple of hours as Layla as offered to do a 'real nappy' workshop. Ruaridh and moi drove over had lunch and had a lovely afternoon building houses, playing shop and reading.
Layla was back soon, then Graham came and home again, still full of this crappy cold.
Leek quiche, roast tatties and peas for dinner-lovely. Made bread then fell into bed. Goodnight!
